Long story but I have ended up with petrol stains on my tank. It's a plastic tank. Do you think it's possible to remove them or is it a respray job? Any advice welcome, Thanks.
Thanks all. I suspect the tank is faulty, it's been leaking out the overflow pipe near the exhaust. It leaks even when the tank is empty. I went on holiday and got nervous about the leak so bunged the overflow. This caused some kind of overpressure event and forced fuel out the top. I took the tank off last night and noticed that there is something wrong with the overflow nipple. It's loose, like its not attached to anything inside the tank. Reading the part fiches suggests that the internal pipes are part of the tank and not replaceable. Its £1755 for a new tank!
It's so off putting & disappointing seeing Ducati replacement part prices these days, what's the point in being a loyal brand follower with their attitude.
Totally agree, £1755 for a plastic tank that seems to have failed after 5 years and 10k miles. That price doesn't include replacement gaskets etc. My local dealer are great, 9 miles away, its perfect for me, I could be a lifelong customer but unfortunately the products are letting them down. This is the 3rd fairly major issue I have had with the bike and I am annoyed about it.
I have dropped the tank off at the dealer for investigation so I think there is a conversation to be had once they have reached a conclusion on the source of the leak. In the US its 5 years for tanks, not sure about here.
I can't go into it on here , but i'd manage to get a replacement tank from Ducati a few years ago and it was way out of the warranty time period. #So do battle with them.
