1200 DVT Pink Coolant On Low Marker - Bike Smells Of Burning

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Bandit, Sep 7, 2015.

  1. Been out for a wee evening potter with friends and gave it some gas in the last two miles of a 10 mile ride home to overtake a few bikes at the front of our group. As soon as I pulled up at my house my bike smelled really hot despite being out on a cool, starlit evening (bout 10 Deg C). I could see the coolant level (pink coolant) was at the low marker. Two questions:-

    1) which coolant should I use to top up with? Is the pink stuff specific to Ducs or is it widely used in the automotive world?

    2) Is there any cause for concern? The bikes done about 1600 miles approx

  2. Check the bike when it's cooled down, has the coolant level gone back to a normal level?

  3. Two other sources of burning smells on my Multi - chain lube dripping on to the cat and the centre stand rubber (if fitted) burning on cat.

  4. Coolant level in bottle on right hand side of the tank behind the bars/fairing is still on MIN mark when cold engine. Checked chain oil on Cat could be contributory to smell Iainwatson. Noticed what a bolt hole behind the gear lever in the engine under the sprocket cover?? Is this normal?

  6. The "pink stuff" in the automotive world is usually OAT coolant. I had an MG and that used it. I do believe you can't mix it with the blue stuff. You can top up with distilled water
