Planned Downtime Tonight For Server Upgrade

Discussion in 'Forum News' started by Rob, Apr 16, 2014.

  1. We will be upgrading the server tonight, moving to higher spec hardware.

There will be around 30 mins downtime from 11pm tonight.

If you're interested, moving from a dual core to quad core CPU and 4GB RAM :)

  4. 4gb - that's all ??

  5. You can't please everybody ;)

  6. 4GB is plenty.

  7. 4GB with a Quad Core will be more than plenty.

  8. Right......I'm confused now. Is it just "plenty" or "more than plenty"? Give us facts!

    The people need to know.

  9. Just google 4GB of RAM & QuadCore El Toro

  10. I love your faith in the fact that you think I'll understand it ;)

  11. El Toro, Most powerful PC's nowadays come with the option of either 2 or 4GB of Ram (Random Access Memory). Often the more RAM you have the easier to switch between programs (IE using Word/ Excel/ T'internet etc etc) all at the sametime. Although currently 'Dual Core' is ok for somethings, its fast becoming old hat and QuadCore is twice the Dual Core' hence the word 'Quad' (4). Its a Processor/ Chip that makes the Operating System (OS) IE Windows7/8 etc. Run smoothly without busting a gut.

Think of it as putting a set of Termis on a Ducati, but not swapping the ECU. Although it'll run, it'll be a bag of bones. With a Termi ECU the bike will run Sweet. OK?

  12. My 1st PC had 4Mb. 486dx66. Man, I surfed some porn on that baby.

  13. I think my 1st PC had 512kb of Ram, no so much surfing, more wading!

  14. I had an Amstrad once. :upyeah:

  15. I did understand what the 4GB of RAM did, and also by quad core it had twice the capacity of dual core. The but I didn't understand was how and why it'd be "plenty" or "more than plenty" for hosting the site, given that it's a busy site with lots of users at any one time. :)
