  1. I have Ducati Hypermotard SP 969 from March 2016. From a first month I got a problem with it: when I ride to Jerusalem or from it (I'm from Israel and living in Jerusalem) it happen often: the bike just cuts throttle response and goes to idle and displays an error flag and CEL.
Clutch in and get the side of the road. First time was on the freeway, second time on ACH. Thankfully I wasn't carrying much lean angle either time, or things could have been a lot worse.

Lambda sensor shows that it's running lean, so it could be faulty sensor or something more serious. Maybe it's an injector problem, and it's really running lean. Either way, limp mode is a disaster waiting to happen if you were mid-corner with no throttle to pick the bike up again.

Service Ducati became as native - 2-3 times a month I was there, I traveled to them several thousand kilometers already (it is in other town). They said that this happens only with my motorcycle, and when the second guy here bought a second SP - it's only in Israel, and not in Italy.
This happens in a certain area - at the entrance to Jerusalem or when leaving it at a distance of about 20-30 km from the city (height above the sea?). Once it happened at the Dead Sea, but this is apparently a problem of great air pressure. His "repair", they give me out and the problem happens again, sometimes in a very inappropriate place with a risk to life and so all last year.
A motorcycle for a total of almost two months in the service. The last time I said that I would not take it back and let them return the money. No one talked about money with me, after a week of waiting I was given a replacement motorcycle - a simple Hyper (not SP) and now for the hundredth time trying to fix mine. Once the problem happened whith the simple Hyper too.

I'm terribly sick of it, I have demanded dozens of times to return money to me or to issue a new serviceable motorcycle - everything remains unanswered.

Today I went ggain to another city to official Ducati dealler service on their replacement motorcycle and again to no avail. The dealer offers me to buy this broken motorcycle as a used - that is, after deduction of 27 thousand shekels. Is a mockery! The dealer said it was his own initiative and Ducati Italy did not offer anything else. What can I do?!

  2. Perhaps you can try contacting the main importer for Israel? Maybe also try contacting Ducati Bologna? Also perhaps try getting in touch with a legal person in your country specialising in consumer law?

    Hope you get it sorted!

  3. Thank you, Air

All this time I work with Ducati Official Dealer in Israel where is the service - "LeeGal" and wrote to Ducati Customer Service [email protected]. Dealer -says that Ducati Italy tells him try to repait the problem and no more, no solution, suggestion, nothing! And customer service twice sent me to the dealer. Just loop!

  4. Are they after market levers? If so, try changing back to the original ones. Somebody else had something similar on a Hyper and it was the levers causing issues.

  5. All under the Guarantee and they say that trying to fix the problem according to Guarantee responsibility. But more than a year ?!

  6. Welcome mate, please see above asking if the brake and clutch lever are original or aftermarket ?? Good luck with it.

  7. The motorcycle with all the parts is new and original under guarantee.
    Thanks...

  9. It may be worth getting a lawyer to contact Ducati Italy stating bikes not "fit for purpose" and demanding a complete refund ? It sounds like your not getting much help from the dealers, which is disgusting when you bought the bike from new. I really wish you luck with it, and hope someone on here has experienced this so they can help.

  10. I certianly would have twittered or whatever social media is these days, facebook maybe? on ducatis own home pages/accounts asking them about new bikes failing, they seem to react to that more these days.

In the U.K. with have various acts which cover sales but basically it means it must be fit for purpose and in this case it seems it is not, look up your own sales customer protecions in Israel to see what your course of action could be. Hopefully someone will be along who has experienced the same fault and how they rectified it.

  11. Cream_Revenge - you're right. I asked the official Ducati dealer to change the clutch lever to some more adjustable, since it was too heavy for me. But no matter - somebody bought other new SP several month ago and get exactly this problem, now we both runs after the dealer.

Wayne58 - I wrote to Ducati Italy several times and got only two answers from: Beatrice
    Customer Service
    Ducati Motor Holding Spa
    Borgo Panigale - Italy

and twice she sent me to the official dealer. And the official dealer from "LeeGal" waits to solution from Ducati Italy.

  12. So did you have the issue before you swapped the lever?

  13. Cream_Revenge, I'll check, I wrote all the dates. And ask the other guy with SP.

  14. 10 minute job to swap the lever(s) and free (I assume you have the original(s)). Not saying it is this but i'd certainly be swapping them back till it's fixed. Rule as much stuff out as possible. I'd swap back anything else non OEM too.

  15. Other owner of problematic SP says that his brake and clutch lever is original.

  16. Thank you, noobie. I'll find the Ducati facebook in the evening and will post there too.

  17. If this happens in a certain physical area it sounds like environmental factors are causing/contributing to the problem.

Your comment about the Dead Sea is interesting. If the ECU does not handle the sudden change in air density (density altitude), caused by sudden change in temperature or elevation, this may cause an issue?

Or could it be a the tank venting issue?

  18. ChrisDS, I couldn't answer to technical questions, but think that the Ducati Italy and our Israel official dealler had enough time to check it.

  19. It would be difficult for them to test for density altitude issues, they would literally have to try it where you have problems or use a simulated environment 'chamber' of some sort.

  20. Very troubling; I would drop bike off & politely demand another bike to use whilst they research the actual temporarily/intermittent fault.
