I have a 1260 multi and have been trying to remove the side panel running along the side of the bike (under the seat not the rad ones) - there are three obvious bolts holding it onto the side frame, once these are removed there is some movement and I can see where two plastic tabs locate over a metal “button” but try as I might I cannot get it to come free which ever direction I push/pull. I don’t want to force it and break the tabs. I suspect there may be a grommet with a panel pin located in it. Can anyone advise how to get it off? Thanks in advance.
It’s a pain. There are two tabs on the plastic that slide over lugs on the frame. If I remember tomorrow I’ll get a photo for you as I’ve got one here at present. Once it’s unbolted you have to slide it towards the back iirc.
Photo of the RHS of the frame with the plastic removed. You’ll see the 2 ‘buttons’ The mouldings, circled in white, slide over the buttons, the plastic cover is removed by sliding it to the rear. However….. the part circled in yellow, drops vertically over this rubber knob on top of the frame so you need to lift that off before you can slide the plastic cover back. Alternatively, if you can get access, it’s tight, as it has a cap head bolt securing it you can unbolt it and pull it out making it easier to manoeuvre the plastic cover rearwards. NB, the cover does flex enough to get it off without removing the rubber bung up top. ps, the photo of the plastic cover above is the one from the LHS, the RHS one is underneath all the other removed parts in a big box, the LH one was easier to extract, but you’ll get the idea from it anyway.
Hi, thank you for following through on this for me it is really helpful. It was obviously the front fixing that was preventing me getting it off. Great pics and advice. I will have another go this afternoon! Cheers
