Power outlet

Discussion in 'Sport Touring' started by PeterDucati, Mar 31, 2012.

  1. What type of plug fits the power outlet on the left side of a ST4S? And are they readily available?

  2. You should find what you want right here.

  3. It's a DIN power plug, 12/24v as above available on the web but most decent car or truck spares places sell them.

  4. Thanks for the info

  5. If you do buy a Powerlet plug (which is the correct one) avoid the 'combination' type that is supposed to fit the powerlet and car cigar lighter type as the fit is compromised and they do not make very good contact. the short powerlet plug fits and contacts very well.

  6. Remember also that some of your devices may have resistors and suchlike in the original plug, so it may not be just a case of snipping the old plug off and wiring on a powerlet.

  7. I was thinking more of plugging in the tyre compressor whilst in the garage save running a lead from the car, so I was thinking of the combination type, so thanks for the warnings!

  8. I've installed a marine outlet with water proof cap up on the dash board left hand side, can charge the iphone/pod and Sat Nav on the go, very handy as the OEM power outlet is a bit out of the way, I also carry one of the mini electric compressors in the paniers, very hand got me out of a hole once already.

  9. That's very neat. I do rather like it!

  10. Is that a carbon wrap or real carbon. Would be interested in some for my ST4S if available

  11. They sell those marine sockets in Maplin, if you're interested.

  12. So I bought one of those waterproof 12v outlets and carefully installed it today. Only a p[hone pic, but it looks pretty neat:

  13. That looks a jolly nice job Peter!
Perhaps Ducati should have placed one there originally, rather than way back on the LHS; I think it would have worked a treat for the likes of a Satnav etc.
    Great job.

Did you wire it to the old socket, create an additional line direct to the battery, or a new connection via a relay/fuse?

  14. Yeah, not bad is it? :)

I connected it to some wiring I'd already put in for our Autocom. Behind the headlight (Fairing off job...) is an ignition switched live socket intended, I believe, for heated grips (It's on the wiring diagram in the user manual)
The socket came with it's own fused harness with easily enough wire to connect direct to the battery though.
I marked and cut the hole with a series of holes on a 1.5mm drill, then cut between them with a Stanley knife hated on the gas cooker (Hot knife cuts easier) then filed the edges to fit snugly.
    :)
