959 Problem Fitting Dp Lower Radiator Guard

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Snips, Oct 8, 2018.

  1. Hi,

I'm having an issue fitting the Ducati Performance lower radiator guard on my 959.

With this part, it slots in the lower channel (as they all do) but this one attaches to the bike with two bolts above the guard - with the corresponding mounts visible - see photo attached (which is in position, but not attached securely).

My problem is that the two original bolts are not long enough to pass through the guard (which has quite think rubber grommets, and secure to the bike. My dealer tried to fit it and failed for this reason - they ordered two longer bolts, which took ages to arrive, so I said I'd fit it myself.

I have now tried, but the bolts supplied are of completely the wrong thread diameter. So, my challenge is identifying the correct bolts to use.

I suspect the rad guard kit should have come with some longer bolts, but it didn't.

Anyone been through this, and know the bolts that are needed? A part number would be ideal ;)

I've since noticed that the EvoTech one has attachments on either side, which has its own challenges, but probably looks a lot better once fitted.

  2. The one you have bolts into another bolt (which it tapped)

When the bolts are removed they can loosen the cam cover bolts too and cause a leak

That’s the reason I went with the evotech one

Could you not just order some bolts on eBay?

Just measure what bolt you already have and order a longer one and cut it down if required

  3. My DP Rad guard came with 2 sets of bolts!
I think one set for the 1199/899 and one set for the 959/1299.

Also came with different washers/spacers to use.

Did you order the rad guard from the dealer? They should supply you with them!
I'll get the bolt sizes etc and the installation instructions to you later this evening?

Interestingly it doesn't mention the 959 on these instructions!
I think it looks the same as the 1299 though as I think I can see the spacers/ collars under the bolt heads?
Looks like you need M4 x 20 bolts
