V4 Qd Dekat Unstall

  1. Hi guys

Recently received my QD DeKat from dbkiller (Think he's based in Italy. Selles them on Ebay)
Purchase was relatively easy and he seems a good guy. I had to wait about two months because they were out of stock but I was kept well informed on progress.

Anyway...The item arrived and as expected there are no fitting instructions so after a lot of searching I found the Akrapovic full system fitting instructions which were useful.

For any one out there that has purchased a QD DeKat and is considering fitting it them selves here's how I did it.

    Step1: Remove end can.
Step2: Remove under tray and crash bars if you have them fitted.
Step3: Remove front headers by loosening the big exhaust clamp and unscrewing the 6 nuts where it connects to the engine. (Don't remove sensors just let the headers hang down)
Step4: Remove centre stand if you have one. (You cannot get the old cat off with the centre stand in place)
Step4: Undo the two hex bolts that hold the cat in place and remove the fittings. (You will need these when putting the QD NoKat back on.)
Step5: Remove the right side footpegs (This is a must! To do this you will need to prise off the little plastic cap on the right side frame cover. Remove the 12mm Hex bolt in order to remove the plastic cover completely and take out the two bolts that hold the right footpeg in place) Swing the footpegs out of the way and put a towel between them and the engine cover. It would be easy to scratch the engine cover.
You do not need to remove the left side footpegs.
Step6: Loosen the exhaust clamp that connects the cat to the rear headers and jiggle it loose.
The old heavy cat should just drop out.
Step7: Push QD NoKat onto rear headers and jiggle into place. Don't tighten the exhaust clamp yet.
Step8: Connect left side securing bolt
    Step9: Re-Fit right side footpegs.
Ste10: Re-fit front headers. Don't forget to clean and refit gaskets properly.
    Step11: Re-fit end can.
Step12: Attach right side Kat securing bolt
Step13: Tighten up all the exhaust clamps.

Putting the QD No Kat on does take a bit of jiggling in order to get everything to match up which is why I recommend leaving everything loose until its all put together.

I have not had a chance to ride it yet but just on start up it sounds fantastic. A proper deep exhaust note. I have the Akrapovic (single pipe) end can which came with the bike.

Everything matches up nicely and the weight saving is pretty significant.
I didn't bother paying another £500 for the map as a few people that have fitted it have said it runs fine without. We will see!
I will let you know how it rides when it stops raining.
