1260 Qs Throttle Blip Even When Using The Clutch

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by TaskMule, Jun 17, 2020.

  1. When I use the clutch to downshift I operate the gear selector well before the clutch is all the way in. Because the clutch switch is only activated when the clutch lever is pulled almost all the way in I still get the throttle blip just as I step on the gear selector. Just an interesting observation I've gotten used to. Anyone else notice this?

  2. The auto blip activation is within the “switch” in the gearshift linkage. Senses when you apply pressure to the gear lever. (Someone else will no doubt explain it more clearly.!)

  3. No I certainly haven't experienced that, but then I do tend to blip the throttle myself, when changing down using the clutch. If I don't use the clutch and stick with the Q-S going down the box, then the auto-blipper works every time.
I still am a firm believer that the Ducati Q-S on the Mutli is absolutely rubbish going up the box, in any gear other than from 3rd to 4th. The rest of the mechanism remains total crap, IMO.

  4. It happens on mine but not frequently.

I’d always assumed my foot had preloaded the lever before pulling the clutch.

  5. Just to be clear this just an observation, not a problem I'm trying to solve. It is because the switch that stops QS activation only trips when the clutch lever is all the way in. As I don't pull the clutch all the way in on downshift the throttle blip remains active.

  6. Next time you ride, go up, then down the gearbox, on a suitable stretch of road, preferably empty. Change gear without hand anywhere near clutch lever and you will feel autoblip working.

  7. Regarding the course or rough shift, the lower gears, if memory serves, have a higher loading due to being shorter and closer, so the cut-time for the quick shift tends to be longer.
    This helps with gearbox loading.
The higher gears, 4 to 5 to 6, may have a shorter cut-time due to less loading on the box.

My q/shift set up on my R1 had adjustable shift times so I could fine tune each gear change to suit.
I have no idea if this can be modified on a 1260.

I was running Dynojet QS, PC4 & IGN timing Adjuster.

  8. Yes.... clutch switch activation will cut the electronics to the g/lever.

    Sorry if I’ve waffled on.!

  9. My QS works perfectly both ways, no issues after I learnt to use a slightly heavier foot pressure. Keeping in mind that they were developed for track use and adapted for road use I’m not sure if they have any advantage for normal day to day riding, but get some pace on and they come into their own.
A nailed 1260 with a full termi whilst using the QS pops and bangs like November 5th. Quite possibly one of the most wonderful sounds ;)
