This is just a heads up. I have this system on my bike, and the mount from the link pipes is not rubber mounted, it's bolted directly to the frame. I bought the system off of here s/h and this mount had fractured, so I had it welded. A few days into my recent trip I noticed the welds have pulled through the pipe. It is possible this is due to heat expansion and vibration, but I think it is more likely to do with the pasting it got from the centre stand touching down. So if you have one of these, and have your stand on, it might be worth checking it. Cheers, John.
yep will get some pics up. When it arrived the bracket is just a bent bit of single thickness stainless. It had fractured right through, the width of the bracket. I had it welded, and they also bridged it a bit to try to strengthen it. Sadly this has torn the weld out of the pipe It is repairable, but I think the solid mount is a poor design. I might therefore have to get a bit more inventive and try to make use of the original rubber mounting link somehow.
The later versions were redesigned. Mine did the same John, but was replaced. Just going to have the end caps powder coated (dodgy Italian paint), before popping them on here for sale... It's the last thing to go... Brilliant exhaust mind you...
Hi David, I don't suppose you have a picture of how it was different ? Or anyone else got a pic of the later version mounting bracket ? My black end caps are bubbling in 1 or 2 places, but not bad enough to redo just yet. Agree, great exhaust though. Just hoping its not the cause of my p!ss poor fuel economy...
Hi John, No "old" pictures I'm afraid, I deleted those ages ago, unless they are embedded deep inside my emails somewhere... I have got the "new" photos though (I'll leave out the bubbly end caps, as I don't want to put anyone off.. .;-) ) ... off they go for powder coating... Fuel economy? No, that'll be your right hand... Ahem.... ;-)
Hi David, most helpful. The bracket I really need to see is the L shaped one, that attaches the link pipe to the back of the frame. Pics from what would be above and front of bike would be most helpful. From the above pics it looks the same as mine. What did they change on the later version, any ideas ? Right hand - couldn't possibly comment This bike has the QD system on it and my previous one didn't, so just trying to narrow down what is making this one so thirsty. I reckon it cost me close on 150 quid extra in fuel for a 10 day trip :/
Hmm, not sure... This was a while ago... the centre stand stop was totally redesigned (it was an "L" shape piece of metal and totally inadequate... I gave a few ideas to QD and they implemented it! Sent me new link pipes as well... very kind. No pictures of the exhaust on the bike... well, again, not without digging around... and then they'd be from a distance... Have you got a picture of the broken bit? I can then see what, if anything is different on mine?
I will have a look on my phone, see if I have or not. I dont need pics on the bike, just different angles of the L bracket to see if it has been altered. my feeling is, that pipe looks identical to mine. Your first pic of the link pipe, my welder tacked an extra weld between the bottom of the bend and the pipe, because the bracket had snapped off at the end of the previous weld. Whilst it inevitably made it stronger, it still doesn't get over the inability to expand under heat (or stand clout) the rigid fixing causes. Or maybe you didn't bother to fit this front mount, so didn't have a problem ?
