Quick Shifter Question

  1. I have not ridden a bike with a quick shifter so no experience of using one but is it any different from just deciding not to use the clutch on gear changes ?
I rarely use the clutch when changing up from 3rd gear/30mph or higher and it is almost always a very smooth change. Changing down I use the clutch more often but not every time and while it takes more care than up changes it can be very smooth.

  2. You need to get your head around changing gear without unloading the gearbox yourself by backing off the throttle. With a QS you just hit the gear lever with the throttle pinned. To my limted experience, about 4 hours on a V4, you can’t be tentative and it definitely didn’t like being used if you were bimbling. I understand that the Multistrada 1260 has a different set up which is more touring focussed. Andy

  3. On my MV, when the QS worked, it was great, very slick change. As said above, if not on the gas with the gearbox loaded the up-change didn't work quite as well. The auto-blipper on down-change was great but only worked well on a fully closed throttle. The Mutley 1260 seems a tad coarser thus far but it does work, maybe will improve as the miles increase.

The slipper clutch on the MV made clutch-less down-shifts smooth with the QS broken/disabled. Never tried that before but it worked well, almost better than clutch-less up-shifts TBH.
