if a chap was considering buying a Panigale R ready prepared for the track, where should he be looking?
Could just buy my 959 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2017-Ducati-Panigale-959-Road-Race-Track-Bike-Loads-of-extras/263240380916
Sorry Benny but that’s not the bike for me. I race in an open 1000 championship and need a bit more muscle than that.
You could check for regular services, fluid changes, rebuilds if it’s been raced hard, crash damage, hours of use or miles, rounded bolts and stripped threads (mono blocks have to come off every f wheel change and the threads are super easy to strip at 40nm). Spares, handy if the seller has some. Original road gear etc. The list is endless.
I’m mildly dyslexic and misread your initial post thinking you said “what should he be looking?” whereas on rereading now see you said “where should he be looking?”. So you could look on eBay, Autotrader and MCN, Facebook groups and forums such as this one. There’s also forums dedicated to selling race bikes such as https://www.racebikemart.com/ Good luck with your search.
I tried to buy that bike, but the chap wasn't prepared to take it out of his van to send me any more recent photos. Whilst I understand people absolutely having the right to do whatever they want with their things, I'd have thought that if you're trying to sell a highly specialised/ expensive/ fairly limited market item, then I'd expect most sellers would understand that potential buyers would need a few pics that weren't screen grabs from an old advert/ track shots taken from a distance ages ago. Potentially that's why it's still for sale. Like I say though, it is- of course- none of my business. I would have liked to buy it, as it looks awesome, but I just cant countenance driving 5 hours each way to look at something that may not be as nice as described/ as I'd hope. Even if I'd been able to get some pictures from a camera phone taken in the van that would be ok, but the chap didn't seem at all willing, sadly. And, as my dad always says, if you can't be bothered to sell it to me, I can't be bothered to buy it.
