Hello good folks, I own a 999 and thought I'd do a bit of routine maintenance. Some of you may be aware of my bike from the 'How to turn a 999 into a sport classic' thread and know its history. For those who don't, I bought a 999s from a guy who used it only for trackdays, He apparently bought it from Ducati Manchester and they raced it in thundersport, so I'm told. Which leads me into my question... What were club racers running as the closing rocker clearance? I ask because all of my opening rockers are bang on 0.20, according to the manual exactly where they should be, somebody did a really good job at some point setting it up! But the closing rockers are ALL over 0.23, every single one and without any damage or scoring to any of the valve train. I can only assume it was done on purpose! I imagine a larger closing clearance could potentially make the valve float a little and increase duration and therefore power. But i'd really like confirmation from somebody who actually knows what they're talking about, If its happy like that then great! I do little road riding in mid wales on a Sunday for a blast and trackdays, So i would ideally like factory specs. I've had the bike on three different dynos and all say the bike is happy and makes good power (I also just found out it has R cams which is nice!). So.... help? I can see myself buying 8 shims!
