Radiator Leak

Discussion in 'Streetfighter' started by Waley, Apr 19, 2017.

  1. HI,
My 848 Streetfighter has developed a coolant leak from the top of lower radiator.
The bike is about 4 years old, there is no damage to the radiator, Its had a rad guard on from new.
I took the rad off to inspect it, there is no visible damage.
So I called my local dealer and you can imagine my shock when I was told a new one would set me back a cool £527 !!
SO I took it to a local radiator repair shop with fingers crossed. They told me it was a bit specialist for them and pointed me towards another place not too far away. I took it there today and they said they could block off the top tube to stop it leaking, and leak test it for just£25.00... happy days. The guy seemed to be well experienced in such repairs on motorcycle radiators and thought it wa caused by vibration. I was just wondering if anybody else had any similar experiences and how they solved it ??

  2. Yeah, I have some experience.

My 1098R top radiator leaked. Ducati wanted £650 for the pleasure of supplying me with a new one, So I went Chinese for £60 and it's performed faultlessly.

  3. It's a common fault on the 848/1098 and there was a recall on them. I bought my bike from a main dealer and the radiator went some time later but The radiator was replaced FOC by them.

  4. No it was well out of warranty

  5. If I remember correctly, the recall was only for the top radiator for the 1098 and 848 (non-Evo). Those had issues with the left upper mounting bracket breaking due to vibration. For the recall and on the 1198 and 848 Evo that mounting bracket was changed/beefed up. I had some issues with my 848 (not my SF) radiator leaking but not at the spot for which the recall was issued. It was replaced though FOC under warranty by my dealer.

You could contact your local dealer but I don't believe a leaking lower radiator was a recall on Streetfighters.

  7. Hi Guys,

had the same issue on my Radiator last week, i opted for the welded seems radiator, i got it from the manufacturer directly, it cost me 120Euro (about 100 british pounds), i could of had it cheaper, but i needed it quick, got it in 5 days via tnt

    supplier found online tara...cn

    looks like this: http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/A58AAOSw44BYRNcX/s-l1600.jpg

my temps are lower than before when stuck in traffic.

As most chinese products, they need a small adjustment to fit correctly, i bent the brackets to fit correctly (really not much).

I can upload a pic of it mounted if someone interested.

    Thanks
