I've bought a rear brake pedal and mount from an ST2 to eventually fit onto my sportclassic when I replace the footrest assemblies with those from an SSie(it should be a straight bolt on job). I'm puzzling over how to fit a newly bought spring for this assembly as it was missing one when I got it, as far as I can see the spring is meant to engage a small pin which is also the pivot for the pushrod assembly that goes into the rear master cylinder from the rear pedal....only this pivot on mine doesn't have a protruding pin. I had thought this was a fairly standard part but looking at some pdf diagrams found on the internet I may have something more similar to a 996 rear assembly which is subtley different in only this part. How then do I keep the rear lever open, is there another design of spring or do I need a new pushrod? What do you suggest.
Dave, the spring on the 996 has a 90 degree bent bit which rests on the top of the mounting plate with the other end engaging in a groove machined on the pin which goes through the pushrod fork (the pin with the small c clip at the other end). The spring will only go on one way. It may be easier to post up a photo
Thanks for the reply, when I bought the brake assembly I was told it was an ST2(which it may well be from given Ducatis history of using available parts on occasion), looking at these two set ups what I have is similar to the 996 so it would seem I have the wrong shaped spring, annoying but not the end of the world. It may be easier to just order another suitable spring than to get a matching bolt.
dave, looking at the 996 parts manual I have from 2000 and my 748S one from 2003 they are the same and show the same set up as you have on the st2. Neither have the part identified as 13 and both have the pin and c clip identifed as 10 and 3. The spring part number on both is 799.1.083.1B, the end shown bent at 90 degrees sits on the top face of part 1 where screw 14 passes through it. The other end is not bent as shown but it engages in a groove on the pin identified as 10. The bit of the spring that does the latter is not shown on the ST 2 diagram and where it is shown on the 996 the bend shown is incorrect. Here is a photo of the one on my 748 If you have the set up similar to the 996 diagram you show, I think you need to get hold of the pin and circlip and maybe the fork. Your ST2 fork ST2 fork is the same part number on my 748.
Unfortunately for me my brake assembly does have the spring clip marked as 13 and nowhere on it that will engage the spring as the grooved post on your photo isn't present and the inside part of that pivot pin is almost flush with the pushrod fork. This is what's making me think it must use a different spring, unless it attaches in a different way that I cant work out.
