Rear brake disc - early model

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by JuttyM, Dec 13, 2013.

  1. I have what seems to be an early rear hub on my 916. The rear disc mounting holes are 6mm. I purchased a new disc from Ducati and it came with 8mm holes and the disc is slightly different. Ducati have no listing for different discs.

Does anybody have an early disc sat on a shelf, maybe after upgrading? It would need to be in good condition to match a fresh restore.

    Cheers

  2. cheers for that link Chris, i shall be keeping an eye on the hub. Here is a pic of mine, not sure how different it is to the later one's short of the 8mm holes and the rear of the arms are slightly bigger (the newer discs won't sit flat) I'd rather not change it as i am trying to keep all the original parts on it but i appreciate i might not have a choice. (i just noticed how dusty it is ! Flippin camera flashes)

  3. as it's that way round (M8 holes for M6 fixings) you could hunt for some shoulder bolts as long as they were the same spec material. As for not sitting flat, am I right in thinking you could grind a small amount off disc to accomodate or would you have to remove a lot? The later design uses that inner dia as a 'register' possibly yours also*? (and a common practice now) for the disc regardless of the fixings but if you used close fitting shoulder bolts they would be a more than adequate replacement register.

*you are offering it up to the right side of those flanges aren't you? :)

  4. Yep, right i guess on both accounts. The shoulder bolts would fill the M8 holes on the disc whilst maintaining the M6 thread. When i got the new disc from the dealer i noticed that if about 2mm was machined off each leg it would sit flat, but returned it because i couldn't figure out how to deal with the larger holes. You have provided the answer :upyeah:

I have a 'wavy' disc to go back on it, but i'd rather a round one.

  5. seller hasn't provided all info but these are close at 'first stab' :upyeah: M6 Shoulder Bolt Socket Screw Allen Tool Post Bolt Steel Grade 12.9 Pk 1, 4 & 10 | eBay

thinking about it, there are probably some front disc applications that use this very set up, even within the Ducati range so may be an off the shelf option even.

(above shoulder options on this and similar listings are all waaaay too long it seems)

EDIT these are a start if not the most attractive :- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Apico-8mm...58?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item27db5ee6f6
