Hi all, Looking for a serviceable brake disc for my ST4s, I believe that these are standard fitment on virtually every 80s/90s/00s Ducati apart from the single-sided-swingarm superbikes, so SS/Monster/ST, and also the '13-'16 899. I've found out that the disc fitted to my bike is 1mm too thick (6mm) and the bolt heads are nearly rubbing the caliper carrier. Anyone have a decent one, would be even better if it's near Basildon, Essex? Thanks,
If the bolt heads are nearly rubbing the caliper then they are not. I would leave it. Are they the standard bolts?
I have the standard bolts. Looking again this morning, there are witness marks from the bolts left on the carrier, and I can feel slight drag as the bolts pass by. I don't think this is an acceptable situation, especially as brakes are involved. I wonder what this rear disc is supposed to fit?
It would be worth taking the wheel out and looking at the wheel bearings to see if the one on the brake side is recessed and the one on the Sprocket side is raised out of the hole. This would have the effect of moving the caliper carrier closer to the disc and bolts. The reason I mention this is because I’ve recently changed the bearings in a pair of ST2 wheels to use them in the 900SS Mongrel I’m building. I was changing the bearings for non-standard ones with a different inner bore and width, so I had to take accurate measurements to make sure everything was lined up. I discovered that as standard the distance across the wheel between the bottoms of the bearing recesses was 2mm less than the length of the Bearing spacer tube that fits in the middle between the bearing inner races. So it’s possible to position the wheel and disc within a 2mm range relative to the caliper carrier, sprocket carrier, swingarm etc. Nasher
