1200 Rear Light

  1. I'm not sure if it's a common fault but my tail and brake light are only partially working. The light only seems to work on one side and the brake light just show 2 brighter spots one on either side.
Anyone know if they are under warranty? It's only lasted 22000 miles, I have the extended warranty but it's guna run out soon.

I was thinking of buying an after market one it would probs cost a lot less if I off set the fuel cost riding to my nearest Ducati dealer to have it changed if the warranty covers it. But all I can find is those horrid "smokes" lens ones, I cant find a red one any where.

  2. If you have a warranty use it. A new one costs about £160.
Back in 2012 a friends late light suffered similar symptoms on the way to WDW. When he was there he got it he got it replaced under warranty. They let him keep the old one.
When we got home I took it to bits. First thing I saw was that the whole of the insides was covered in a white dust. This was from the internal light guide that had been vibrating inside the lamp creating a load of plastic dust which gradually obscured the lens. The problem with the lighting was that several of the surface mount LEDS on the circuit board had blown. I replaced them with new ones and the light worked as good as new. When I re-assembled it I used a hot glue gun to stick the light guide in place so that it would not vibrate loose and fog up the lens again.
Here is a picture of the gubbins.

  4. Sweet wasn't sure if they were a sealed unit. I will phone j&L tomorrow and ask it they will cover it. Thanks btw Derek

  5. It is a sealed unit, but they pry apart quite easily and stick back together very well with polystyrene cement

  6. I don't suppose you can remember where and which LED's you used to replace them do you?

  7. Nice one Thanks, I was just wondering if the Brake LED's need to be more intence than the lighting ones if you know what I mean, or were they all the same and brake ones just got more power?

  8. They're all the same but there are many more for the brake light circuit
