Rear Shock Choices For 1098 Sf

  1. Thinking about upgrading the suspension on my standard SF. Forks are easy but only Ohlins list a rear shock specifically for this bike. I had hoped to find something superior to the stock item and just as good as Ohlins for road riding but a lot cheaper from Nitron or K Tech.

I was in Riders at Bristol yesterday and Steve Payne, the parts manager, was a great help. He sorted out several queries for me despite the fact I wasn't buying anything, including sourcing some aftermarket taper roller head stock bearings which I'd already ordered from some one else and been let down on the delivery date. And while he was at it, with a bit of cross referencing he found out that the shock for the 1098 SF and the standard 1098 SB have the same part number. So if anyone wants an aftermarket shock for their SF, then a unit listed for the standard 1098 SB will fit your SF.

That means Nitron Pro Race or K-Tech 35DDS units become available for a good £5/600 less than Ohlins TTX. That saving will pay for a fork revalve. Result!
Its now a question of whether I can get a Nitron unit with a red or yellow spring. I can't live with turquoise on a red Ducati...

Thanks Steve. A lot of us moan about main dealers from time to time but they're there to help as well as make a profit. Twenty minutes with someone with real product knowledge is worth hours of fruitless searching on the internet.:upyeah:

  2. Nitron is what ill be getting for the Zed next....well, next year anyway....dropping mine off to CJS Thursday....although im mulling it over im half considering selling the RSV4 for a streetfighter at the moment...

  3. I had a nitron race shock on my street triple. Quality kit. I also had a nc30 with k-tech front and back. Between the two I'd go for the k-tech, both are great bits of kit but the k-tech looks more bling!!

  4. Red and black does beat turquoise..

  5. Had a result. Following on from the Hyper/SF thread I rang Racelab suspension specialists to recheck prices on upgrading my SF suspension. As it happens they have sourced a new Ohlins TTX from within the industry, unused, for a 1098, mine for £900. I can have the forks revalved with K-Tech internals and refitted to the bike, the TTX fitted to the bike and a full set-up, ride in/ride out price £1600.
I can't argue with that. I'm booking it in.
