1198 Rear Sprocket Carrier Removal

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by Andy 1198, Jul 7, 2020.

  1. Stupid question time, I have ordered a replacement sprocket carrier/hub & want to know if I can remove it without lifting the wheel off the ground.

If I need to lift the wheel, how do you support the bike & allow access to the carrier? My rear wheel stand goes through the chain side of the hub & I can't find a paddock stand that goes through the hub from the wheel side.

    Help! ;-)

  2. No, you dont need to lift the bike.

Slacken the chain while on the stand. Nip up eccentric clamp screws
    Take off the stand.
    Slip chain off sprocket.
Undo the big nut (lefty loosey)
    Remove your carrier.

  3. Thank you

  4. I'd undo the nut first, off stand, as its tight but leave fitted.

  5. Invest in a Bursig centre stand, they are great. You can do whatever you want when the bike is raised.
