Discussion in '749 / 999' started by Cream_Revenge, Jun 13, 2017.

  1. Evening.

Is anyone not running the OEM 190/50? And if not, why not???

    Cheers

  2. 190/645 on my prototype :)

  3. Is that a prototype tyre too? Seriously rare!

  4. CR I am using the 180/55 M7RR, not convinced the 190 is the right size for the wheel or the bike's handling, despite what it says in the book. Metzeler seem to agree although the Metzeler recommended pressures are a little low IMHO

  8. whats wrong with the 190 ? im running it.The 180 might make the the turn in quicker but i have no problems with the 190

  9. Been alternating between 180/55 and 190/50 over the years and prefer 180.
    Bit more nimble.

  10. 180/60 ALL day long, forget about the rest.

    Job done :upyeah:

  11. 190/55 Pilot powers.. recommended fitment for my Dymag carbon wheels, they feel ok but the chicken strips are more noticeable, will have to amend my lean angles...:D

  12. Can't be verified tho. Dunlop refuse to accept it exists ;)

  13. As you are doing more track, the 180/60 is ok on a 6 inch rim but imho I'd go 190/55. If 5.5 rim defo 180

Fwiw a 180/60 on my multi was very similar to a 190/55 and you can get to the edge no problem.

  14. Unlike Ducati with the bike :D

  15. 749 and 999 have 5.5 rim.
190/50 is a touring tyre, 190/55 is better but 180/60 is the correct choice if you're using the bike for cornering type stuff.
Compared to a 180/60, 190/50 is 10mm wider but 26mm smaller in diameter (26mm is a big number here) and will lower your rear ride height by 13mm, good if you're making a chopper

180/60 is basically a 10mm more narrow version of the 200/55, otherwise they're pretty much identical in terms of tyre geometry and therefore basic handling, it is a sports/race tyre profile.

180/60 is designed for 5.5" rims (as on your 999), 200/55 is designed for 6" rims, 190/50 is designed for cars.

  16. Sorry... 180 is 20mm more narrow than a 200, 10mm per side.

  17. I couldnt fit a 190/55 to my 05 999. With new chain adjusted to front of adjusters, the tyre fouled the front cross member of the arm.

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  18. In going 180/55. Chain adjusters are as far forward as they can go so hope it's not an issue.......

  19. 180/55 and 190/50 will fit.
