Rebuild Rear Shock

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by sharksqb16, May 29, 2017.

  1. Rebuilt most things to do with bike's but never a rear shock, I got a 600ss project i'm doing. I am thinking of rebuilding the shock for this, is there a rebuild kit for the shock any tips or hints on do's & don'ts. Also herd that if you put 900sie rear shock on makes rear end sit higher to speed up steering?

  2. It depends on which shock you have - my guess it has a blue knob on the top of the reservoir, which means it is a Sachs Boge shock. As far as I am aware they were not very successfully rebuildable - a low cost alternative to a Showa.

But it also depends on which swingarm you have as well - if it is an aluminium one, you shouldn't have a Sachs shock fitted - it should be a Showa or similar.

An IE shock will raise the rear to speed steering, but so will dropping the front end instead.

  3. Thanks Arquebus. Sadly yes it has a blue knob so that put that idea in the bin, think i will be looking for a better shock.
My swingarm is steel, well both are bought it as a box of bits with one arm, which is marked as 750ss, then bought a load of parts from a bloke on this forum who was braking a 600ss, basically cleared his garage out what he had left and amongst the parts was a tatty 600ss swingarm, which i have stripped clean and primed. Once again thanks for info.

  4. Yep, that's a SAchs Boge shock - some specialists may be able to deal with it - but, if it doesn't leak, use the damn thing - just clean it up and spray it.....they work OK when in good condition.
