V4 Recalls, Recalls And More Recalls.

  1. I currently have the V4s, as have 4 other friends.

    I would also like to add that this is the best bike I have ever ridden, especially at pace, where the bike seems stable yet has the odd shake of its head just to let you know who's the boss, but that is character building and keeps you on your toes - not literally!

    …..but the list of recalls and failures/problems with the bike is getting ridiculous.

    The nearest dealership to us is a 150 mile round trip, so each time a recall is needed then its a day off work and a trip to take the bike (Some recalls/ repairs have required the bike to be left for a few days so another journey is required to pick up) - I would like to add that my dealer is Cobb & Jagger (Ducati Leeds) and they have bent over backwards for us when any of our bikes have needed looking at, which has taken some of the stress out of the whole situation.

    But the list keeps growing and it is becoming tiresome, many of these problems should have reared their heads during testing although my thoughts are that many of the parts on the test bikes where initial one off builds, then prior to production, was put out to tender for manufacturing and the cheapest supplier was chosen which will be of questionable quality - If you look at the parts on the bike, it is quite clear that many of the parts are not the same quality as was used on the 1199/1299 panigale and even the fixing nuts/ bolts are made of chocolate and often the hex head on them are not even central to the thread. Ducati have tried to maximise profit by using cheaper parts and yet the bike is nearly £4k more than the 1299s panigale and also hasn't any carbon parts on it.

    My bike is coming up to a year old and I feel like its spent most of its life waiting to have work carried out.

    If all UK owners where to get together and discuss the situation and a letter was sent on behalf of all - what are your thoughts to what Ducati should do about the situation? - Please only serious answers.

    My initial thoughts are that the least I would expect is a 1 year extension to the warranty period for owners that have the first gen bikes.

  3. I think an extension to warranty is a reasonable idea. I'd be up for lobbying for such a thing.

    I've had the first generation of a series of new vehicles and not had this type of experience. This is my 31st motorcycle and my first Ducati. To some extent it confirms the impression of the brand. That said it stirs the soul on looks and stirs the front and rear of the underpants to ride.

    I have an 80 mile round trip to Moto Rapido. Same thumbs up for dealer service, but as you say its the travel and inconvenience during the work week. It's practically a day off every time with the faffing about.

    BTW my other bike is a 2018 Street Triple which is a jewel of a motorcycle in all respects has had zero issues. Perversely, the dealership is a 4 mile round trip! Perhaps reliability is inversely proportional to distance from dealer.
     
  4. Had 5 of them. They're very good dynamically, but increasingly bland in other respects. Heated grips though. Should be mandatory for all bikes.

  5. Would be nice to know what the recalls are for so any prospective purchasers can see what they are.

  6. As with most anything of Italian mechanical descent,You could go to bed with Monica Belluchi but wake up with one of Berlusconi's bunga girls. I think Ducati's pr department sell it as "The Ducati Experience"

  9. I understand your point of view entirely, but just to possibly make life a little easier, there are two types of "recall". The first is a safety recall. These are usually accompanied with a letter from Ducati to the registered owner and need to be sorted asap. The second are "workshop bulletins" or "technical updates", these aren't critical and in most cases are/can be done when the bike is next serviced. Be it a SW update or a simple technical mod' it happens quite frequently and unless told, sometimes, the customer never even knows.... V4 has had its fair share of updates, agreed, but not many "safety" ones and in most cases there's been no need to get it sorted asap and not ride until it's been done. I understand the owners wanting "problems" sorted asap, but in most cases it's medium term prevention rather than stopping an imminent failure.
    The recent oil cooler recall is a safety one and should be done as soon as you are able. The recent exhaust "recall" is a technical, workshop update. There's no need to make a special journey or appointment to get it done. It can wait until service time so as to minimise the inconvenience to you. There's no risk to the riders safety and worst case is the potential problem, may rear it's head whilst you're riding. There are a couple more of this type on the system at the moment and they'd get done at the same time. As it happens, with the oil cooler recall being a safety then everything should get sorted in one visit providing all the parts are ready for you. Just needs a bit of planning.
    Stuff like this shouldn't happen in an ideal world, but it's not and it does. Ducati aren't alone in this, but they have become far more proactive of late sorting "potential" long term issues out rather than waiting for stuff to fail and it being out of warranty.

  10. I'm still of the opinion the bike was undeveloped prior to general release solely so that it could be used in WSB & BSB because the V2 couldn't compete with Kawasaki
    I'd be really pissed if I paid £25k plus for a bike that's spending so much in the dealer's
    Not fit for purpose springs to mind !!!!!!
    I hope they get the V4 sorted before they put it in the Multistrada

When I started making noises to Land Rover about the number of recalls on my Discovery a few years ago I was told that Land Rover are a responsible customer focused manufacturer that want to ensure their customers have the best experience from their product, so apply updates and recalls to their products that less customer focused manufacturers would not consider upgrading with no charge.
    I’d be surprised if Ducati marketing do not added that same statement to all their recalls.

    We all know it’s Bollocks, and Land Rovers are just a little bit Crap in many ways, but I still buy them because when they work they are great, and I accept a certain amount of ‘in-market’ reliability testing.

    If I was buying a new or nearly new Ducati I think I’d apply the same logic.

I used to love Land Rovers too, had 2 RR Vogues and an RR Sport, nothing but trouble the entire time and in the end got fed up, since have had a Landcruiser and now a Cayenne, and wouldn’t consider buying anything from the green oval again, they look lovely, have great interiors but thier build quality is awful!.

    With the Ducati V4 having issues, I did sort of expect it to be honest, perhaps not this many but I can live with it, plus, there’s not really any other bikes out there I like at the moment, done the RSV4 already I guess the R1 is good but doesn’t appeal to me as much as the Panigale.

It’s taken four weeks to recover my v4s to the dealers as the first aa man told me they didn’t have the equipment to recover v4’s correctly and not to let any other company take it on a low loader. Today spoke to the dealer and they are collecting when they deliver a new bike near me. They have really bent over back wards and can’t knock them but I was really upset when the second aa man told me Ducati owners are so precious about there bikes and if it gets damaged then the aa will have to pay if I start a case against them! Anyway 8 recalls an engine management light on, running like a bag of poo and no clutch on a 25k plus bike is a joke when you think about it

  15. Couldn’t the dealer have picked it up earlier? Or was it stranded in a land far far away?
     
  16. No they said I had to deal with Ducati assist (Audi as of dec) as they had no vans near me. AA man said they weren’t ready to deal with high end bikes but had to as Audi had combined it
     
  17. Oh I see. Bit of a pain for you though. I’d email Ducati UK and politely explain the issue you’ve had in waiting for so long on a pick up. Seems a bit of a shambles re the pick up. They (Ducati UK) May not even be aware of this issue.
     
  18. AA talking tosh. We have bike trailers years ago. Unless they lost the contract (may have gone to RAC)

It’s taken Ducati customer services 2 weeks to respond to my email which is frustrating, the first AA guy tried to load it on his dolly and showed me why he didn’t think it was safe which was good of him and at least he was honest and said normally sportsbike Re recovered by specialist company’s on be have of the aa, it’s been a nightmare
     
  20. Why the crap? I worked for AA for 13 years and RAC for 4 years., I may know what I'm taking about :rolleyes:

    They can tow with collapsable trailers, flat bed or far out to trade. The contract os probably central EU one, rather than UK, so DUK get very little say in service levels
