Removing 916/748 Female Fuel Connector From Tank

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Zhed46, Nov 28, 2015.

  1. While lifting the tank to fit an Optimate lead, I have somehow managed to break the black female quick release fuel connector on the 916 tank fitted to my Monster.

Question - how do you get the female connector out of the fuel pump plate? Because the plate is recessed and there are other clearance issues, I can't get a spanner on the nut. Any ideas?

    Cheers

  2. Push the release plate in as far as it will go and depress the locking pin fully. Let the plate slide back out over the pin and pull the plate out of the Union. The pin has a spring under it so get ready to catch. There's also a spring for the plate, catch that to. Depending upon position, pulling the plate can get fiddly but it's easier to see than describe ;) it's doable with patience.
With the plate out the way, you can get a socket over it. Refit the same way. Use a thread sealer on the new union. There's no set torque as such just tighten it down enough to seal, but also position it to make refitting the release plate easily.
