From the (metal) petrol tank. I've got loads of high purity isopropyl alcohol. Say a small amount on a cloth, that'd be safe; not dissolve the paint?
Another for wd40, on one occasion I’ve used acetone on my 959 without issue on the tank also (avoid acetone on any plastics tho as did discolour one of the trim pieces)
WD40 might work, it has for me in the past. But if its really stubborn or you just want it to come of super easy, use petrol on a rag. I learnt that here and its the best.
I do - now - remember using lighter fluid. I don't remember on what, but I think I'll try that first. I'm not sure petrol would be preferable to isopropyl alcohol, but it probably comes down to what they're specifically solvents for. Isopropyl - watered down a shade - is rubbing alcohol, so not notably carcinogenic; though apparently over time it can form peroxides and explode! It's also used in hand sanitizer - and for cleaning bongs! I got it for cleaning my vape - but binned the vape after I ended up as an in-patient with epiglottitis. According to Wikipedia it can be used in windscreen washer fluid - so, at least diluted somewhat, it presumably doesn't damage automotive paintwork. I think I'll try it where it won't be obvious. My sister's car perhaps.
“Probably” ok with any of those for short term exposure. By that, I mean, squirt, wipe, gone. if you put some little plasticine rings on your tank and filled each one with one of your chosen for 24 hours, I predict that you wouldn’t use any of them, with the possible exception of WD40/GT85. I would counter-propose that you buy some tar remover (like t-cut with no grit in it) from your favourite polish supplier and take the risk out of it.
Took it off today with WD40. I'd forgotten about it until I saw the can, so you could say I used what was at hand - but anyway it worked, in seconds. Thanks to all.
Slight derail from the thread, but related. I've got only some stickers left on my MTS. Notably the chain adjustment guide and a few frame stickers. Is there any legal requirement to keeping these around? I've nerdily bought spare OEM stickers (2 packs to be exact) that's in storage so if I need to put something back on, it's not a problem.
