G'day...so it finally happened, I misplaced my bloody key and decided to replace the ignition, seat lock and fuel cap on the old 996. Been trawling around the mighty internets for clues on how to do this but the search engines only bombards me with eBay items for sale and other irrelevant plosh. Does anyone know of an online manual or tutorial of some sort on how to go about doing this? Should add that the steering is locked as well and needs to be disabled somehow.
Ignition/steering lock is easy enough to change. There are just 2 bolts holding it in place but you will need to remove the steering damper and fuel tank to get at it, doesn't matter that it's locked. Electrically it just plugs in so no problem there. Fuel cap and seat lock also just unbolt, so depending on what you're changing with the cap (whole cap or just the lock barrel?) is fairly easy. Or you could leave them and just change the ignition but carry 2 keys...
Nice one, thanks heaps for that. This was my last key, so will change all around, but fuel cap and seat lock will be easy.
