The front brake on my ST4S have an unpleasant judder in use ..... far less noticable on very gentle application or when braking hard. No pulsing through the lever. Pretty sure the discs are unwarped but they do have some fairly heavy patches of corrosion. I've tried fresh pads but no real improvement so suspect the corrosion is setting up the judder. Been advised that the discs are too thin to withstand skimming. So ...... any recommendations for replacement discs? I'm not made of money and the bike's perfectly rideable but this is taking the final gloss off what is one of the nicest bikes I've ever ridden.
I have been running this problem for around 8/10 years. Replaced OEM discs with EBC's but initially with the wrong standoff. Found that cleaning with wet and dry of the disc and the pads plus a good clean of the brake pistons helped. Found that lubricating and turning the bobbins did not help. So give the discs a good going over and the pads too. Also check and recheck wheel alignment by following front wheel fitting procedure carefully
Thanks for that. I did have go at the patches with a rotary wire brush followed by wet'n'dry and found some improvement. I'll try some rougher paper. I'm fairly happy with my wheel mounting protocol.
