Has anyone replaced the fuel level sensor on a 1000 Ds? I would appreciate some advice if you have. My issue is that the sensor seems to supply the right voltage level to the gauge when I fill the tank- the display indicates the tank is full by displaying all the bars, but soon after I have ridden some distance it starts to play up, the EODB light is activated, and the display indicates a lower level than it should. This EODB light activation and incorrect level display issue cuts in and out , the more fuel that is used the more the issue occurs. I vaguely recall reading somewhere that the EODB light activation might be caused by the wires which enter the tank shorting out as the 'Potting' compound is defunct. I'm not too sure if it is this possible issue which is causing my incorrect readings, or if indeed it is the sensor that is playing up. When I look on the drawings of the fuel tank internals using this website: https://www.bike-parts-ducati.com/d...DS/Multistrada-1000-DS/FUEL-SYSTEM/34/41/0/34 There are 2 separate components which make up the fuel level sensor. #11 Which is a 'Fuel level gauge', and #35 which is a 'Flange fuel level sensor.' I'm unsure as to which of these 2 apparent separate pieces is the one which is likely to be at fault. I would appreciate any feedback on my issue. Cheers, John.
in the past, maybe still. the engine ecu would need to know fuel level because as the fuel level drops, air can be introduced into the system and affect lamda readings. from what i can mind EOBD would swithch off if the fuel dropped below 20%
Don't think I have any Lamda sensors on mine Fin, it's had the 'chop' too- Cat has been removed. How's your fuel level sensor behaving btw, no problems? Also, there is that cunning bit of trickery under the pillion seat which deals with the air when the bike is filled up and deals with the air pressure as it's being used up if I understand it right?
aye. it works fine. i just have to interpret it diferently. its all over the place. pretty much the same as yours. but without ay MIL issues. it was changed underwarranty but lasted no longer than the initial fill up.
Only reason I want to sort this issue out is because I might sell the bike soon, I'm totally o.k with using the trip gauge thingy to know how much fuel is left in the tank, so it doesn't really bother me other than I do like anything on the bike to work correctly, but I ain't that bothered. Having said that I forgot to look at the reading earlier this year and ran out of fuel on a duel carriageway, was rescued by a kindly BMW rider eventually after pushing the bastard thing up a slight slope for a 100 yards as I was in danger of being hit by lorries thundering past me- no easy feat with emphysema! what's a MIL btw?
A malfunction indicator lamp (MIL), or check engine light, is a tell-tale that a computerized engine-management system uses to indicate a malfunction.
