Im a bit confused....had a CJS custom map done on my 13 plate multi earlier this year and went into my dealer today to get the service indicator reset (I had it serviced before the mileage due time so annoyingly its now indicating a service due!) I specifically asked not to mess around with the remap when resetting and they said it wouldnt affect it, but then the mechanic came over and said he couldnt be sure if it would wipe the remap or not when resetting it. Tried ringing Chris at CJS but no answer.....anybody have an idea. Was a wasted round trip of 120 miles today!!
Had my service light reset and it didn't affect the Moto Rapido Racing map on my 2012. Not sure why it would but ChrisW is the man to give you the proper advice. Andy
Amazes me that the techs can't backup the data, clear the service indicator, then upload the data back. We have a similar issue at work where a manufacturers own engineers will not back up customers equipment. We get them out for warranty work, they turn up, wipe the config and leave the customers with non-configured equipment that doesn't work until we go back in to do a full set up from scratch. I think manufacturer techs are just plain lazy.
I can't see any reason why resetting the service indicator would affect the mapping. I have just done a 1098 remap for a forum member and the service indicator was showing before the reflash and after the reflash. That would suggest the info sits in a different part of the ECU to the mapping.
The service indicator can be switched off without touching the fuel map... No problem. The only 'glitch' that can come about is the latest version of the DDS now goes straight to scan before any other options can be selected. If that happens, it will probably pick up that a software update could be available. Tbh, unless he's told different, then the choice would be to update if only on the basis of 'good practice'. I would purely on a customer service basis. Any bikes I've mapped have a decal near the diag socket to make clear not to update the ECU. The scan feature can be skipped though. Then it's a straight forward reset of the service light.
Great advice as usual! Thanks guys! I'll pass this on to them..... Beggars belief that the service workshops don't know this in the first place...... Doesn't instill confidence does it?!
Chris forgot to reset mine on 2010 model when he did the remap. MD racing did the reset with the 30k mile service No issues
There's more chance of William the Conqueror answering his phone than CJS! However he usually responds to e-mails.
I've had a CJS remap, and had the service indicator reset by the dealer more than once now. I put a warning label on the diagnosis socket that says I have a custom map installed and not to reset. Never had any problems
