At noon on Sunday, 28th July, for the first time ever the historic city of Chichester will vibrate and resonate to the roar of up to 300 motorcycles gathered in the very heart of the city centre.

After being ridden onto the precinct, for two hours these gleaming machines will be displayed by their proud owners in North Street and East Street for all to enjoy, making a novel addition to the Sunday shoppers, tourists and other visitors on the day, all of whom will also want to appreciate the power and style of machines from colourful modern sportsbikes to globetrotting adventure bikes, continental tourers to chrome-ladened custom bikes.

This ‘Ride 2 Chi’ event is being supported by Chichester Chamber of Commerce & Industry, City Centre Partnership, Motorcycle Action Group and CMW Motorcycles in Chichester. Besides creating a fantastic spectacle for the city, the primary purpose of this event is to raise money for the Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance, who will also have a stand next to the Market Cross and be collecting on the day to help raise funds towards the £5 million needed each year to keep these life-saving helicopters flying. The Air Ambulance receives no statutory funding, relying almost entirely upon the generosity of the public to keep this vital service going.

The other focus of Ride 2 Chi is to promote road safety, for which the event has the full support of the Sussex Safer Roads Partnership, which is funded by Sussex Police together with partners including the Fire & Rescue Service and West Sussex County Council. The partnership will also have a stand next to the Market Cross displaying police and fire & rescue motorcycles plus will be giving help and advice on improving road safety with initiatives such as the Biker Down! workshops, developed after extensive research into the causes of injuries and collisions, which is a radically different approach to helping lower the number of motorcyclists killed and seriously injured on the roads.

Those bikers wishing to participate in Ride 2 Chi can find more information at http://www.chichesterbid.co.uk/events/ride2chi. There is no charge for entry but city centre display places are limited to 300 bikes on the day – first come, first served. Free entry to the event includes souvenir goodies and discount vouchers for selected city centre cafes, restaurants, chocolate retailers and even a tattooist!

This first ever Ride 2 Chi is hoped to become an annual spectacle in Chichester, so come along and see it for yourself.

  2. Nice one Stuart - BikerBabe will probably buy you a Bacon and Marmite butty .

  3. I've not booked in for it but the cafe discount voucher looks tempting. It says first come, first served. But room for 300 Superbikes bikes?! That's a lot of room innit?
