So not here to argue, no did not get stopped but seen someone else did and wondering how it was illegal under which road act. And to those funny people no driving without due care and attention does not apply here just read below and look at graph. As you can see at top the red arrow is lane to turn right only. There are traffic lights there for that lane to turn right and another for lanes that go forward. There is no sign saying no right turn from outside lane or center lane neither there is a sign forward only. There is a waiting area between both sides of the road as it is possible to get stuck in between due to quick lights. So now a biker was coming on center lane, went past all the stationary vehicles (red arrow), went forward on green light then turned to right side lane and stopped in waiting area. The lights for right turn and forward are past the wait box so he did not pass any traffic lights yet. However he was pulled for that stunt and given ticket. So what rule did he brake? He was not speeding and when he moved to right lane he indicated and was going at safe speed with no traffic behind him.
So what you are saying is that he overtook all the vehicles in the right turn lane on the inside and then pulled in front of the stopped vehicles in the right turn lane? If that is the case, I suspect he was over the STOP line which is where the front vehicle in the right turn lane would have stopped. There isn't really such a thing as a 'waiting area' at traffic lights, other than the lane behind the STOP line...... However, the ticket could be for what the Police officer considered to be a dangerous move, by overtaking on the inside and pulling in front, but I suspect it was for crossing the STOP line when the lights were red. Also, is there a cycle margin across the road, or a crossing perhaps? The trouble is there are so many variations of trafiic light / road marking combinations because there is inconsistency how Highway Authorities design the junctions and the positioning of everything. If a picture of the junction was available, it might be easier to tell rather than speculate.
If he was in the area where the blue estate car is, he would have been nicked.....It's for cyclists. If he was past the blue car and before the lights, he would have been nicked. The STOP line is the one where the front of the white van is sitting. The roadworks sign on the left is pretty confusing......it suggests the right lane is closed. It also looks like matey boy on his moped should have been nicked too.
I know this junction very well. The green arrow is for traffic going straight on only. If you are not going straight on, the red light applies to you. If the biker went through the red light even though he was not going straight on (because he was turning right), then he was committing an offence. And if he did so notwithstanding there was a policeman in a yellow jacket right there, he was not paying much attention. The lane markings are not very consistent from any of the three directions, and can be quite confusing, but the red traffic light is actually pretty clear.
Hm I was under impression that because legally I have crossed the STOP line on green all is good to turn right just like after any other set of traffic lights. I am not allowed to cross the opposite lane but even that is under doubt in my head (my head is twisted) as again past the traffic lights and stop sign.
Could also be classed as undertaking . Which in the eyes of plod is a definate no no . Just re read first post and clearly he wasnt doing that so no idea why he was wrong.
So you are the moped rider, then? Anyway....You said in the first post, the rider didn't cross the lights, now you say you did.
What about if the biker was intending to go straight on, went through the first set of lights on green and then before crossing the second set of lights he realised he was going the wrong way and needed to turn right so moved across to the right hand lane. Legally I guess he would've been ok then ... but clearly from what he saw the copper thought the biker always intended to turn right.
Honestly that one has me confused I get the red light but at the same time as said you go over green light when ahead so stop line is not in effect. Dave yours we get in to what was the intent. That is impossible to prove. If he was filtering so overtaking traffic on left he should indicate....
