Need glasses for driving? Make sure you've got them on next time you're stopped... Roadside tests coming with instant license revocation for those who fail. https://news.sky.com/story/police-t...and-confiscate-licences-if-they-fail-11489213
I'm not certain I like the idea of Police officers being able to ban drivers on the spot. Failure to pass the roadside test should be confirmed by an official test, checked against medical records etc. I don't like to doubt the integrity of the Police, but they do have some rogue officers amongst them.
If only they would do this with mobile phone users and drink/drugs......ride around London and you can smell dope every now and then from cars around you... or is it just me? And don't get me started on other things they could be doing with their time.
I haven't seen the details of this yet but I am concerned. Coppers are not even qualified to do alcohol tests at the roadside and ban you. The most that they can do is take you back to the station for a more stringent test and the results can be challenged. So we give the Police more power for eye testing than alcohol testing?
The rules, https://www.gov.uk/driving-eyesight-rules and if you are interested, this is what Wikipedia has to say about the Snellen scale, https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snellen_chart. I am more concerned that the road safety pressure group Brake are reported to be supporting these road side checks. Smacks of self styled vigilante resident groups carry out speed checks. Andy
I agree with the reefer issue, especially in the ethnic parts of town..... sorry it just doesn't happen in Richmond etc. Further more the super dark side windows (also closely associated with the whiff of the giggle smoke). One nearly pulled out on my bro, who had a candle at the front on a Sunny day, he then nearly pulled out on me.... a Mutley with extra running lights and a dayglo vest.... (she makes me wear one now)
Fact is there are far more older drivers driving now days, and a lot of them cannot see the hell where they are driving, I have had so many people pull out infront of me and it can only be they cannot see. You only have to follow some people to know they cannot see where they are going, especially at night. Even people who need glasses do not wear them driving. How it is enforced is a discussion needed, but the only way it can be policed is by police pulling people over or doing spot checks.
I hope my mother in law gets tested. No amount of telling will sink in. Her obs are awful and she has no spacial awareness. She’s on her 5th wing mirror on this car. She also admitted she never uses her mirrors when driving as she only needs to know what’s in front. Reversed into me not long ago because she didn’t check her centre mirror.
