Yep Im coming to that one. My mate and I are heading up early doors, hes on a Trumpet Street Triple. Never done Rockingham, but I'll prob bring the 1098 . I'll come and say hi to everybody
Will do. I think it'll be hard to miss. My avatar is Haga's WSBK bike when it was shown at London Exell Motorbike show in Jan 2011. Thats when I knew I wanted one. My 1098 is black and you can see it in a few albums I've posted and I've posted some shots in the trackday photo album. I plan on getting some cheap(er) Chinese bodywork for next year
Depends on layout, only done it nce (1 session due to weather and they banned anyone not on wets!) but tbh it was like a big roundabout.
Looks like the weather is going to be........interesting. If it is going to be wet, I think my Ninja will be coming out to play instead, simply as there's more tread on the tyres :biggrin:
If it rains at Rockingham it's like an ice rink, I watched BTTC there one year in the rain it was like dancing on ice.
Weather forecast for Corby tomorrow is a belt of heavy rain passing over roughly midday to 4.00pm. Bring waterproofs.
Isn't is typical Thursday is going to be lovely and sunny I really want to bring the big duke, but she's shocking in the rain, so the Ninja is the smart choice. Not a huge amount of tread on the front tyre thou I know it will still be fun thou and thats the main thing
How did it go folks? I'm not a big fan of Rockingham compared to some others, but it sure is better than working. Did you get a dry day?
Day was good. We had 4 dry sessions in the morning followed by big fat rain in the arvo. There were a couple of big crashes but not many others. Track day itself was run by Rapid training. Unusual step of a (v slow) sighting lap in every session?! Not sure it had a huge effect on volume of crashes. The 848 behaved well, but there was quite a bit of traffic so didn't really get into its stride throughout the day. Was good to meet you Matt, Pete and AndyB.
I'd never been to Rockingham before, but the track layout we used really grew on me. Not the grippiest of surfaces as I found out during the first session on the hairpin. Ive never had a high side before, dont really want to have another. Was great to meet you Dianesegirl and yes your 848 did look, sound and ride great. Sorry I didnt get to meet Pete and AndyB but I was in disguise as a Ninja Rider yesterday. I went out and did two wet session after lunch. There were only five of us on track, but I kept it very steady and just had a little ride around :biggrin:. Hope to see you guys at the next one
Agree. The track is very tight and twisty, with no long straights. Could only briefly get into third gear, forget about 4th 5th or 6th. Most of the corners are right handers, so right sides of tyres wearing more than left sides. Dry in the morning, but unfortunately my group had several offs resulting in red flags which shortened most sessions. Nobody was hurt. Rain showers at lunchtime, then later in the afternoon really pouring down which effectively shortened the day. I was again glad of the Michelin Pilot Road 3 tyres which were better in the wet than most other tyres. Then a couple of lads switched to full wet racing tyres, which are something else (this was not really in the spirit of the event, I must say). I don't think I'll go to Rockingham again - track too twiddly. Prefer tracks where you can open it up a bit more. Also no proper paddock cafe, just a burger van. Rockingham is a funny place - £millions have been spent, including on huge grandstands with seating for 52,000(!), but they are little used and the owners must be losing a fortune. Although it was purpose-built from scratch in 2000, the design is not very good. Rockingham Motor Speedway - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
