I'm considering heading to Rockingham at the weekend to try and console myself at having had to miss Brands and possibly as a last huzzah to the season. Seems a few on here have been, just wanted to get thoughts on it. Been looking around and it seems to garner mixed emotions, is it any good? And what's the grip like there, been reading quite a few places it isn't the best. This could all be academic of course as it looks like I'm going to have to chance it on the day to get a place as the Pani may well not make the noise test and I'm loathed to toss away another couple hundred quid this month after Brands so seems the best way to go. Any opinions on the track gratefully received, thanks!
if you are looking at the international layout the first right hander before you go up the rise is quite slippery, I know, I highsided on a 600 there  the infield is a bit of a challenge to string together but is great when you nail it, the 3 lefts are brilliant and I love the final chicane onto the main straight. Some people don't get on with Rocky but I really enjoy it there, it's a bit flat but it is a cracking track
Only ever been on the infield track and it's brilliant! As above, the series of left-handers makes it a real change from all the other tracks around the country. Never had a problem with grip as only been in the dry but have heard that it can be variable when wet.
Ouch to the highside! It is the international I believe, 2 days over the weekend and the weather looks pretty decent. It's 104db which is why I'm a little concerned about the Pani making it.....would be nice to get one more in. Will bear that first right in mind! Thanks
That would be nice though I have no idea. I spoke to one of the guys at No Limits earlier and he said the bike may well be a problem Plan is to check on places Friday afternoon, then head up Saturday morning to do a sound test and book on if all is well. They seemed ok with that and there's quite a bit of space left so fingers crossed. I really need to sort out a track bike for next year I think.
Rockingham - love the inner circuit (get the left hander right and it flows) straight line the first chicane right and you feel like a MGP hero!! watch the transition from inner to banked circuit as its not smooth and causes 'issues'. In a car it's a good thump going over it - on a bike its as upright as possible. Have fun.
Im on the blue gsxr in front, excuse my terrible riding, fast forward to 9 mins for the, er, interesting bit...
They aren't the strictest re noise there. It is/was very slippery there in the wet, imagine Donnington with a layer of washing up liquid spread liberally over it. I watched BTCC there a few years ago ( they dont use it now, probably bankrupt several teams in repair bills) and it was like watching mechanical Bambi on ice, complete and utter carnage. Apparently the surface oozes oily stuff in the rain. That said it could all have been sorted by now.
Dear god I hope I don't do that! Looks....painful I suppose if you're going to do it might as well do it in style.....and on video! Might tweak the TC up a notch just to be safe :/
Looking at the weather for the weekend it seems like it's going to be pretty good. From what I have read it seems it's a bit of a nightmare in the rain, think if the forecast changes and rain is on the cards then probably best to give it a miss. Thanks for the info folks
It's difficult to see on the video but the first half of the track was damp, it was on / off rain all day. if its a dry day you will have no problems at all
i've done 2 wet TD's at rockingham and not felt there was a lack of grip. first time i was on road tyres, 2nd time i had full wets. the 2nd time was the best! Rocky is a great little track but the curbs are nasty so stay off them. i'll be there on sat.
My old club ISC did 2 track days there. I have to say I loved it, but it was dry and I had been told in the wet it was quite slippery....
So i might go now but only slots in the fast group left and i'm intermediate. Is it worth just booking anyway.. hhmmmmm??
Hi mate, I'm coming! Driving up from Exeter so fair old treck for me too. They only had spaces in Novice group though so at least i'll feel quicker than i actually am
