Rubbish Bolts

  1. I have just realised the tubular frame holding the top box on my Multistrada is a bit rusty.
I thought I'd whip it off and rub it down, quick spray and it will look as good as new.
There's about ten pan headed screws, 3mm upwards to take out, of course three of the have turned out, so, do I drill the heads off and hope there's enough to grip onto or is there another trick to removing them.
No chance of applying heat, It's all plastic under there.
    Any suggestions?

  3. I’d drill them out, if you’re lucky with the heads off y may be able to get purchase but worse case drill em all the way and tap new threads!:upyeah:

  5. I had the same problem and managed to cut a flat blade screwdriver slot in the heads of the ones that rounded off. Liberal use of plus gas and they came out. Andy

  6. That's a great idea, I have the right tool for that.
    Thanks

  7. I may change them all to stainless steel

  8. Bit by bit I change all my fasteners to stainless allens. Ducati fasteners are crap. They should be stainless as standard for the price of the bikes. Same goes for my Harley for that matter. The finish generally is of a very high standard but spoiled by rubbish zinc plated fasteners that go furry all too easily. If Triumph can manage to fit stainless fasteners to their bikes, other manufacturers should as well. KTM's are bad too because they insist on using torx-head bolts and they hold water stubbornly and quickly go rusty if not dried.
