S2r Exhaust gaskets

  1. Has any one ever managed to get the exhaust pipes to seal fully using the original gaskets?

I have just fit new gaskets and the seal isn't perfect but alot better than it was. I might have to go down the route of high temp gasket sealant.
Any one have any recommendations for sealing the joining pipes?

  2. I use Holts fire gum

  3. I managed to salvage and reuse the ones that joint the headers to the cat with no leaks, but the cat removal pipe to the link pipe for the cans leaked. I used clear bathroom silicone sealant and it worked perfectly. I also used it on my Superlight with no problems too. The problem with most exhaust sealant pastes is that they are not flexible and break up after a while. Silicone sealant flexes.

  4. I didnt think the silicone sealant would handle the heat from the exhaust.

  5. Silicone will withstand higher temperatures than the exhaust will generate

  6. NB: Do NOT use any silicone based sealant if your bike has Lamda/oxygen sensors, it buggers them.
