I've been looking through the S4R Workshop Manual, and it seems I require two special tools for the forks... The question is, do I really need them to change for fork oil or are they only required to totally strip the forks? Cheers
Looks like a circular thing that has two screws and a plate with a 'U' shaped slot in it One is called a spacer (the one with the 'U' slot) and the other has something to do with compressing the spring. Trouble is the front part of the manual is in Italian and the torques and special tools aren't easy to work out Cheers
Yes you will need both these parts then, I take it you have showa forks. You can fabricate your own but it is easier to buy from Front Fork Spring Compressors, Fork Seal Drivers, Big Piston Tools and Fork Oil to change your oil.
No you wont need them if you are just changing the oil.The u shape bit is for compressing the spring to allow access to a nut to get the top nut off, which then allows the spring to be lifted out.You can actually do this bit with a couple of screwdrivers and three hands!
