really strong opposing magnets one on bikes one on cars so when they get too close they repel... simples
If there must be Gatsos and speed cameras, they should be installed only on the approach to road junctions never on plain stretches of road, and should be highly conspicuous. That would get everybody paying attention, and applying the brakes, as they approached junctions. It would become a habit. If that was done throughout Wales consistently, casualties would drop a lot.
What about autonomous bots floating around dangerous junctions, relaying information to vehicles, warning that a bike is approaching. The bike could have a screen and software calculating whether or not a car is pulling out. Could relay bike recognition to signage warning of approaching bikes or other vehicles. Bike recognition cameras on the side of cars warning of approaching bikes or other vehicles. Could automatically stop the car. Massive airbag on the front of a bike, deploys if you hit something. Clothing now has airbags. Our phone knows where we are, so surely something on a bike or car can give a warning through some tech. The tech is there to track vehicles. But hey, cars will be driving themselves soon, so cars won't be pulling out anymore.
Key word. Consistency. The various councils expect drivers to be utterly consistent with their approach to driving, yet fail to apply any consistency themselves.
i think an instant ban for anyone caught using a phone whilst driving, hands free or otherwise (as some studies have shown hands free to be equally or more dangerous than use of a hand set) maybe a 3 month ban and a lifetime ban for anyone caught texting. While the use of phones may only contribute to a small % of casualties at junctions (dont know the stats) it would send a message that although driving and riding may be a fun pastime as well a necessity, concentration and being aware of your surroundings is paramount. I think people that think nothing of using a phone and texting at the wheel obviously dont give a toss about the task at hand in general.
what the majority of bikers should be doing is treating these hazards as though they are gatso's, paying attention and applying the correct speed to these locations, regardless of whether there is a camera there or not!.........
Absolutely. Check your bike's user manual for details of what the correct speed is for each location. Let's not blame them. Car drivers can be relied upon to do the right thing at all times, so it's up to bikers to get their houses in order. Hey! I can do traffic policing, me!
Loz.....top tip for both your posting and riding, you need to look a bit further than the end of your nose ....
Maybe so, but we are not being asked for our opinions on what 'bikers should be doing'. We are asked to suggest schemes on which money could be spent which might result in an improvement. Perhaps you might propose more police patrols better paid ...
