Just got back from a week on these fabulous islands. The roads were outstanding, we mainly used the RIDE magazine routes, we only had one dull part in the South of Sardinia. There were a couple of great coastal roads but some of the middle at the bottom is very busy and boring. The best road on Sardinia was the ss125, really spectacular, fast and flowing. Corsica was also great, the twists and turns went on for hours and hours. You just had to watch out for pigs, goats and cows. I'll put up some more video when I get an opportunity to do some editing. This was taken from a 360 degree camera we were playing with. We took the night ferry from Italy to Sardinia, had 3 days on the island and then a quick ferry across the water and 3 days on Corsica with an overnight ferry back to Marseille. Long way to go (3,025 mile round trip) but well worth it. PS the other boys also own Multistrada's, a Classic and a DVT, but they elected not to use them this time
I found it Chris. Nice to see you out and about with Scott and Drex. I've been to Corsica a couple of times, and Sardinia once, though car bound with a mate, and often wished I was on my bike. I know what you mean about the cows and feral pigs wandering around the mountain roads. When I was there there were a lot of roadworks and gravel on the roads. At those times I was glad I was in a car! On the way back we got a ferry from Sardinia to Italy, and back up the Italian Riviera to France. That was one of our best road trips ever. Nice pictures, glad you had a good time and arrived safely home.
Great pics, interesting vid camera work too. The lens is not too wide. Were you operating the camera movement or does it have a sensor? I like the sucker mount on the fairing, where’s it from?
Hi there - I wasn't too sure about it as it belonged to Scott. It records everything in 360 degrees but then you use an app to edit the footage and provide a point of view, you can also get it to 'follow' an object, in this case the overtaking bike. We only messed about doing MotoGP type passes a few times but it was a fun result. The only downside I can see is I'm not sure if it saves the footage to a memory card, I think it saves to your phone. I was able to save the footage Scott sent me and then put it into Final cut Pro to use in an edit, I think the output is not very high quality though. Also - not yet available in the UK https://www.digitaltrends.com/camcorder-reviews/rylo-review/ The Camera I use is a Drift Ghost and the sucker mount comes from them. I like this set up as it has a remote control I mount on the bars, the camera records constantly (about 2.5hrs battery life) and then when something good happens you hit the remote and it saves (tags) 30 seconds before and 30 seconds after. https://driftinnovation.com/collections/mounts/ghost-4k
Thanks for sharing. Planning trip to Corsica for 2019 over the winter months. Initial look at Google Street view looks promising. Maybe 5 days on the island (in your opinion is this enough or even too much? It's not a big island but lots of twisty roads by the look of it) plus trip to Nice and back.
Ive got a Drift Ghost s. It’s good but I think the lens is a bit wide. It managed to separate itself from a helmet mount once, bounced down the road at 60 mph and it still works fine.
I'd say maybe 4 days but 5 would be OK, you could always head over to Sardinia for a couple of days as well, it's only an hour and the ss125 was a great road, you could just ride it in both directions. I can send you our routes if you want them? If you went the longer way via Genoa you could ad a couple of days in the Alps. We went from Livrono to Sardinia and then back from Corsica to Marseille.
Corsica I think, more good roads. But the 125 on Sardinia is brilliant so you couldn't really go wrong with either. The only dull part was the south west and south middle sides of Sardinia The ferry from Sardina to Corsica is only about an hour and pretty cheap so it's possible to plan a trip doing both
