Sat Nav /what3words.

  1. Hi All , can anyone recommend a sat nav that supports the what3words app?, my Beeline is generally good but its a bit hit and miss when used in conjunction with what3words - sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

  2. Both Apple Maps and Google Maps work well with what3words. Or are you looking for a dedicated Nav device that’s compatible?

  3. Garmin XT will do that. You'll need the Garmin Drive app installed on your phone and connected to your GPS. Within What3Words click on 'Navigate' for the given W3W location, you'll then be presented with an option to send this to the Garmin Drive app. From there send it to your Garmin XT.

This works on Android for me, not sure about crApple though... So long as you have a Garmin that can connect to Garmin Drive then it should work, not sure which models GD works with apart from the XT.

  4. Waze, on your phone.

Having said that, when I was working I travelled quite a bit in the UK and Europe and quickly found that postcodes and addresses are not to be trusted. Before every trip I used Google Earth and Maps to street view/confirm the property that I was to visit and then programmed my satnav with the Long & Lat coordinates.

  5. Surprisingly I don’t find many customers are on to what3words, despite the fact the live in the middle of nowhere with just an ambiguous house name and yet are surprised when you call them to get directions as if it’s a stupid question!?

So I use this quite a lot, just put in the name of the house and a rough area and it’ll pinpoint the building.

  6. As I said earlier grid refs/coordinates is the way to be confident about destination location. As for how your system takes you there is another story :p. For the UK grid refs are more foolproof than Long & Lat, only because we have the Meridian running through our country and that little minus sign can make a big difference :joy:
