Has any ST owner found the best place to put a sat-nav on their bikes? I've had quick check and it looks like the only place is in the screen. I would appreciate any advice and help on this matter. Dave Hughes Liverpool
Where to put sat nav is a fair question,I don't use a sat nav in the UK,but have used it on occasion abroad. On that occasion it was in the map section of my tank bag, which was no good at all,so if someone knows of a mount etc please let us know.I ride with friends who use a sat nav not always for directions, but on unfamiliar roads they can see if a very nasty bend is coming up too.
If you look at the front of the top yolk you will see a threaded hole. RAM sell some solutions that can be fastened here using the correct size bolt. The RAM system is compatible with the TomTom Rider or you can buy your own bits to build a custom system RAM Mount UK RAM Mount UK
Thank you TT, good of you to reply, and of course you are spot on with your comments. As for the sat mount, I have it sussed and ChrisW is right. I have fitted the Ram device, with the ball on the end, to the top yolk using 2, 6mm bolts. If I knew how to post a photo I would, but it looks good and is just in your face as you ride, Ideal. On my ST I fabricated a perspex bracket by first making templates from paper. Once it was cut and stuck together I fitted it to the inside of the screen above the dials and routed the wiring up behind the infill panel. This worked successfully for several years and was still on the bike when I traded it in at Riders of Bridgwater last October. I also had a spare screen which I noticed they fitted presumably so that my home-made jobby didn't detract from the look of the bike. They may still have the modded one there. Worth a call. If you look in my gallery and zoom in you can just see it.
This forum has always up to now been a friendly place to be and I hope you decide to hang around a little longer. The search function on the forum works quite well to see if your question has already been asked and answered. Top tip: best not to ask the best place to mount your tax disc
Stick with the forum yosser your always going to get views which are not the same as yours, you will get plenty of helpful replies as well as a lot of humorous ones,on the old ducatisti site I wrote about the day we got pulled over by the police cos of the noise of my termis going through the mersey tunnel and apparently some forum members said I was the scum of the earth and the type of biker who gives other bikers a bad name,so take it all in good humour(saying that though I was fuming at some of the replies  ) but don't mention tax discs cos u will deserve some abuse
Sat navs have no place on bikes. Your attention should be 100% on the road, that's the dangerous bit. They also spoil the lines of the bike and give you wrong information often. You hear about that a lot. I know of one who guy last year turned left down a gravel track 'cos the satnav reckoned it was a short cut (the road he wanted to take turned left about two miles further on) into a narrow twin track (tractor ruts) walled lane who then couldn't turn round. He continued blindly on until the river crossing appeared. He reckoned the satnav was correct and tried to plough through it. It was only when the water was over his knees and on the tank he realised something was wrong....................took his pipes off and the collector box.....he was on a Multistrada. Says a lot. Then he called the AA, don't ever, ever use them - total and utter waste of fucking space. Took two hours to arrive..... the AA guy couldn't fix his own arse if it was leaking......... he said it had to be recovered. I fixed it in ten minutes with a borrowed 10mm spanner. I had to borrow one from a mate as the AA man wouldn't let me use his - he was too embarrassed....... I was with this satnav guy two years previously and we were running short of fuel. I asked him to find us the nearest gas. Took him 15 minutes to play with the thing and we still had to guess....... Multinumpties aren't Ewan/Charlie beemer shit clones no matter how many panniers you put on them. Or Satnavs. Satnavs are no substitute for maps and brains. Only for idiots and those with no idea of travel or geography. They just make you feel smug and posh. Satnavs belong in a glove box in a car, or a pannier on a bike. Use them in emergencies (?) that's all. Sooner or later they will be banned from eyelines like TV's are. Sound only. They are a distraction especially at night. That's exactly what you don't want on a bike. 99% of folk never get further from home than they know anyway, let alone strange places, deserts or similar. Ban them or bin them I say. 2p. I
Really that's your 2p, more like £3.50 You used to hear a lot about the world being flat as well, but I guess that was the same - idol gossip. For my 2p, we used them to go to Misano for WDW and also Brno for WSBK on sports bikes not Ewan/Charlie clones as you call them, with only one slight detour. As far as mounting them is concerned, I've always used Techmount on my 916 & 1098... TECHMOUNT - Products
Always use one to suppliment my Navigation. Have my route preplanned in note form (road numbers and towns) in the tank bag map pocket and listen to the audio from the Satnav for junctions. Navigated in Holland, German, Switzerland, Italy, France and Spain leading up to 9 bikes. It just takes the pressure off you. Nothing can replace your own observations and being able to follow road numbers though.
I use a sat nav occasionally. No substitute for common sense but useful to check at junctions etc. Good thread here:Satnav/GPS mount advice needed - Page 2 - Ducati.ms - The Ultimate Ducati Forum
yup I knew something was up when we went down a Swiss cycle path and had to duck under a low bridge but that was someone elses Garmin to blame there  My TomTom was fine You can listen to the instructions you dont need to gawk at it all the time - as the pope said,.,, on never mind
