Hi all I'm planning on doing a trip up to Scotland in the summer, can anyone advise a decent route, roads, scenery etc . It will probably be a 4-5 day holiday stopping in b&b's Looking to do 150-200 miles a day when i get up there, so any advice on where to stop & go will be most welcome Thanks
I went on a trip round with Milovanmultistrada from Multistrada.net and Ducati-upnorth.com the roads were fantastic....wish I lived closer Haggis Hunt Tour 2011 (AKA: Multi Goes to Holyrood)......on multistrada.net......don't think the links in here liked being copied and pasted. lots of pictures and reports http://www.multistrada.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=23031&highlight=haggis+hunt
Android's suggestion is a good one, I would be tempted to modify it by doing Fort William to Kyle of Lochalsh and the Isle of Skye, definitely over the Pass of the Cattle to Applecross, and the coast road from Applecross to Ullapool and beyond is a must!
Andy, I'm doing the below route with 15 bikes during April...meeting in Edinburgh, 9 bikes from Ireland, 1 Scottish, and 5 from England coming as far as way as Kent to do the tour, it will be well worth it...4 Dukes in the group, which is a good percentage. Day One..... Edinburgh EH11 1AF, UK to Fort Augustus PH32 4BL, UK - Google Maps Day Two Fort Augustus, Highland, UK to Plockton, Highland, UK - Google Maps Day Three Plockton, Highland, UK to Inverbeg Inn - Google Maps In relation to accommodation, we are staying in the following Fort Augustus...inch Hotel £100 per night including evening, meal & B&B, you could also try Caledonian Hotel Fort Augustus Loch Ness Inverness-shire Homepage were were going to stay here, but they could not accommodate us all. Plockton, Plockton Inn...£55 per night B&B Loch Lomond...Inverbeg Inn - £79 per night B&B I hope this is of some help. Eoin
I agree Zimbo...but I aways thinks is a nicer route to come into applecross along the coast road from the north, as the scenery is in front of you, then for sure head back out over the pass.
The file is an .itn file for my tom tom, it was created using the tyre programme TyreToTravel - find, create and share routes
Hey Nik, Looks like a really great route, I'm going a little further north west to take A835 towards Ullapool then onto the A832 on into Gairloch, I have not done this section before, but I believe the scenery is excellent along the coast...don't know where you are staying, but I recommend the Plockton Inn, great little village, lovely food and a friendly crowd. Eoin
Not sorted out accommodation yet, will depend on numbers joining us, had thought of camping, but will need to charge up bluetooth helmet & phones so a B&B at some stage. Wanted to go a bit further up, but was limited to time, anyway always leaves something to re-visit. Will look at the Plockton inn, thanks for tip
I was interested in your route, would be great to see it, maybe be able to offer some local knowledge, tried to load TYRE, it crashed my comp!! Never seen it having such a hizzy fit before, had to manually crash it and then once fired up again I had to un-install!! Any other way you can load your route? May be able to offer some local knowledge!
Tyre is usually pretty good, try itn converter programme, that is what i use to use, if you PM me your email address i will send a non zipped copy to you, the forum upload would not allow the itn file so had to zip it
Just back from a great trip around Scotland...and the weather held out...my oh my, the Scottish Bikers are spoiled, the roads are fantastic, and the Scenery is amazing. I can recommend the road from Dalwhinnie to Fort Augustus A86 onto the A82...60 miles of fantastic twisties....and also while your up that neck of the woods the A835 onto the A832 out to Gairloch...and around the headland onto Plockton 150 miles of Heaven...I will be back, and the sooner the better.
Just joined from Bonny Scotland and as quoted, we are blessed however, better weather would help. Regards, Rob
i did London to John O'groats no motorways last summer, i will dig up the route, we did all the best biking roads, cat and fiddle , fort william, via glen coe to lock Ness was awesome
Rab, as April goes you have got to be joking, North of the border has been so much better than the south west of England.
