Hey all. I know seats have been debated to death on here. I'm going to get either the race of comfort after a test sit at dealers. What i'm after is enough grip to hold me back further on the seat and most important a small rise that will allow my legs to connect properly with the stompgrips. My legs kind of sit slightly to low at the minute as im always sliding forward. Looking at the pic can any owners of either offer comment on whether its a realistic expectation of the race or comfort seat?
I'd be interested to know what you thought, after you'd tried both seats. I tried a comfort seat last weekend and found it surprisingly firm. I designed a seat and had it made, it's definitely more comfortable than the comfort seat and I understand the racing seat is firmer than that. It's grippy as opposed to the standard 1199 ball crushingly slippy seat, with a Tricolore stripe to make it different. I'll post a picture over the weekend if you're interested.
This seat is slightly thicker than the 1199 seat and much more comfy. I can't say I noticed any difference on my wrists, which is what I was concerned about.
What material is it covered in? Does it stop you from sliding forward? My main issue is that when I'm back in the seat I'm in a good position and my knees contact the stomp grips allowing me to grip the tank. But when I slide forward I'm gripping the tank with my upper inner thighs and missing the bulk of the stompgrip.
I don't know what the seat material is called but it's slightly course, it's grippy, you just don't slide around with it any more, that was the thing that I hated with the standard seat. Now I don't even think about it I just stay where I'm sat. All materials are man-made so it's not a problem if they get wet. Hope that helps.
I grabbed a comfort seat from snells today and although only covering the 10 miles back home it seemed great and I for one liked the slightly higher sitting on the bike feel. Also stopped me from smashing the old boy on the tank under heavy breaking. So far so good
How much higher would you say you are sitting? Ate your legs contacting the tank higher up under braking?
I would say I sit around an inch higher in the seat. My legs Inevitability touch higher up on the tank under braking but not to the extent you would think sitting that much higher if that makes sense? I really like the seating position the comfort gives and would recommend one but I know a lot of people disagree and prefer the original seat.
I have the same issue with my 1199, I keep sliding up the tank. I've just ordered a DP race seat and some stomp grips, hope this sorts it, can't carry on like that.
Do you wear full leathers? I only ask as I have this problem in jeans but with my leathers on there is plenty of grip.
