749 Seized Rear Spindke / Axle

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by Spjallen, May 22, 2015.

  1. Had a bit of an issue whilst here at snetterton. After a couple of warnings from the rear when coming out of oggies I thought the tyre had had enough. So took that as a warning. Bike did it again when coming out of the bomb hole so time to pull in. Felt like the back was trying to step out or a puncture. At one stage it felt like the rear was going to fall off anyway it looks like the rear spindle is seized on as I can't get the Spindle out, despite large hammers, blow tourches and ice. Any ideas on how to get it out?

  3. Last time it was out. Which was about a day ago.

  4. Something wrong then if it came out Andy and now it won't. Is it in crooked? May explain the feeling too if it's out of alignment

  5. The only thing I changed was a different rear sprocket and carrier. Up one tooth. Chain alignment was correct and the spacers were present. It was also tq'd a fraction lower at 120 ft pd not the 133.

  6. Did it go in ok,did it feel like it was binding on the way in?

  7. Went in fine. This morning managed to drill the spacer out and see that the bearing had failed on the right side of the wheel.

  8. operator error after the first removal refit.....

  9. Nope. Bearing failure. Have it out now.

  10. How many miles had the bearing done before failure?
The reason I ask is I was told this model's wheel bearings lasted well ....not like the heavier st range.

  11. I've not changed these at all - they are my spare dry wheels - since I bought them about 10 months ago. I don't know the history of them either perhaps in hindsight I should have changed them. They have only been used by me on track for a total of about two hours. It's all a bit strange though as I've always had a warning that wheel bearings are on there way out - you know with that horrible grauncing noise. Anyway, it's out now. Time to write some more threads. Thank you all for your comments.
