Multi 1200s Twin spark 2013 - Seized Spark plug - Horizontal cylinder - front spark plug I have quite a few attempts, unsuccesful, to remove the seized spark plug from the horizontal cylinder. This is on the front cylinder that gets a lot of road spray from the front tyre. As you can see from the photo it was in a very bad state. I have tried various ways to release it with no success and I think i was very close to snapping the plug or strip the threads - "felt the wrench flexing". Just before taking it to the dealer I tried one more time. This is what I did. Sprayed some releasing oil (a lot actually) in the plug hole. Started the engine and warmed it to about 45 degrees. Switched off the engine as at that point the plug rubber boot started pushing out - I presume the oil was expanding. Removed the spark cable Using a 12mm deep socket with an extension gave the plug a few sharp taps. Using a 14mm deep socket tried to turn it clockwise - no movement. Tried anticlockwise - used a bit of force but not excessive - and suddenly the plug turned ( what a joy ). My question is how to stop water etc getting into the plug hole. The rubber boot seems to be quite tight but somehow water got in..... Any ideas will be appreciated .... PS. My thanks to Derek for pointing me to the right direction
Another method that works is soaking it in Coke a cola overnight to free it. I'd use Vaseline around the boot.
Good to hear that you got it out. That plug is certainly corroded, mine have never looked like that, although the corrosion appears to be around the base and fortunately not down the threads or getting it out might have had an altogether different result. As the other have said plenty of vaseline or silicon grease around the rubber boot will help keep the water out.
