Hoping one of you "knowledgeable" bunch can tell me if there is any difference between an 848 and a 1098 Sfs swingarm, not the hub, just the swingarm itself. Thanks in advance, Phil
I thought it was longer but didn't realise by how much, so thanks that's useful information, do you know if all models of Sfs use the same swingarm??
The user manuals for the 1098SF(S), 1098SF and 848SF all state a wheelbase of 1,475mm, so it would make sense that they are all the same.
Are you sure? I thought the headstock angle was different on the 848 SF which would produce a different wheel base measurement if both used the same swinging arm. The 1098 SF swinging arm is certainly longer than the 1098 SBK but its worth checking the part numbers of both Streetfighters with a dealer or online parts fiche. If the swinging arm for the 848 SF and the 1098 SF share the same part no. they are the same. If they don't, they're not. There's a parts fiche link floating around on here somewhere.
Looking through the parts fiche, it seems the part number changed in 2012 but both 848SF and 1098SF have the same numbers, thanks for your help . Yes that's going to be the winter project, any help and advice would be appreciated . I'll start a new thread soon on the 1198 page!
That would make sense. I wasn't aware of the headstock angle difference. (I was, but is slipped my mind) It does seem strange that wheelbase is the same, to the mm. Maybe designed that way or lazy publishing of the owner's manual?
I sold one a few weeks ago that had been sat in the garden shed all year. There was some posts on here re the conversion from that american chappie, bit of cutting and a chopping involved.
Haha, sods law , hoping I can pick one up that's already been modded but if not I know a man that can. I'll have a search for posts you mentioned.
the SF swing arm is longer than the std 1098 arm but remember the 1098RS arm is also longer than the std 1098. In fact the measurement you want to refer to is swing arm pivot to centre of hub as the eccentric hub also makes a difference in the overall length. It is possible to modify a SF arm to 1 run with a 200 rear tyre with clearance for tyre warmers. 2 and running the eccentric at the front of its movement get it to the above length of 515 =525mm (In fact if you are using the Kyle linear rocker then he recommends it at 525.) well within the similar range of the RS. the size of the hub is irrelevant as the arms are the same diameter both fit each other. This is the modification underneath and inside the arm to make clearance for the tyre, for some reason the radius of the inside of the arm doesn't match the radius of the tyre. This is the side cleaned up to give a bit more clearance for the exhaust. When you remove the original aly cover the the casting is back this far anyway. another good mod to do is to make it fit like a 999 swing arm using their bushes on the left side. This eliminates having to remove the engine or lift the frame off the engine to get the arm in and out.
