Any expertise on working on shim clearances with a set of newly repaired rockers gratefully received. I'm having my knackered flacked and generally ruined rockers for my 996 repaired by Newman Cams with a steelite pad blazed replacement for the hard chrome. My question is how to go about checking clearances once they're in. Haynes manual quotes two sets of factory clearances - 'checking' and 'adjusting' clearances. My feeling Ipis 'adjusting' but any wisdom on this would be great.
The 'adjusting' clearance is what you should be setting them to. The 'checking' clearance allows some tolerance for normal running. If they are out side the 'checking' clearance you need to adjust them.
