Showa Rear Shock Rebuild

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by rhubarb and custard, Jan 20, 2019.

  1. I would like to refresh the rear shock on my 93 Superlight preferably with some updated internals and a spring tailored for my weight.
I realise I could put in a more modern unit for a similar cost but I would like to keep it looking stock.
    Any advice gratefully received.

  2. A Hyperpro spring may be a good idea - as for the internals, I suggest you take it to a specialist for three reasons.

    1) Finding the right original parts isn't easy, but a specialist will know what to use if he can't find original parts.
    2) A specialist will know whether it needs re-valving or not.
    3) A specialist will re-charge it with nitrogen (the correct gas) to the right pressure.

  3. Brooks Suspension

About 140quid for a eebuild iirc.

Pay extra for powdercoat of spring etc

  4. Hi Al thanks for your reply, I am intending to give it to a pro for the rebuild and was hoping someone on here has already done similar.
Would I be right in thinking the unit is the same as a standard SS despite the fact mine only has one seat.? Out of interest do you know what the standard spring rate is.?
    Simon.

  5. Thanks for that Desmo, I have had a look at them, have you had one done by them.?

  6. No but I think thats who Id use. I looked at using them myself but trying to keep current buuld costs down

  7. Maxton did mine (rebuild and new spring - '97 SL) - huge improvement.

  8. IIRC the spring rate is the same for basic 900 as it for SL.

If you give the Hyperpro website a good search, it will tell you exactly which spring is required for your model and year.

I reckon you need the SP-DU09-SSB001 spring - the other shocks are Ohlins or White Power which appear to have been fitted over the years as well.

But they will always advise you if you contact them.

  9. R&C...regarding Brook Suspension. I had my Triumph (RWU) forks rebuilt by them. I had K-tech springs/adjusters fitted and the fork bottoms coated black. Top notch job and a very professional outfit.

  10. Many thanks for everyone's input, plenty to think about, I think I will have a call round see what's on offer.

  11. I've used Brooks for my 748 and found them great but on a recent thread a few posters said they weren't so happy... this probably doesn't help you a lot..
