916 Skimming A Barrel

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by Chris lee, Apr 4, 2019.

  1. I need to loose a couple of mm from my barrel for a project, can I just get the top machined ? I realize this will affect belt/ cam timing

  2. I did this on mine, but not as much as you want to. You may require oversize cam pulleys to get the belt tension correct.

  3. It’s not just the tension that needs to be right: you need to keep the valve timing right too.

  4. You need to take any amount off the bottom of the barrel. I also machined the liner the same amount, in my case 2.3mm
You'll definitely need oversized pulleys as @ducv2 has mentioned.
I actually put adjustable wheels both sides for the timing.
Best thing to do is have a look at my build thread and if you have any questions, tag me in on a reply and I'll answer as best I can to help you.
