1200 Sky Hook And Sag Adjustment ??

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Barrycg, Dec 1, 2015.

  1. I was watching this video How To Set Suspension Sag - Motorcyclist Magazine | Facebook
and was wondering if there's any manual adjustment possible with sky hook ?
I've read a few threads mentioning it and front end dive but it totally confuses me tbh
and I'm wondering if I'm missing something I should adjust as I'm fairly heavy :flushed:
I can't say I've noticed a lot of fork dive but then I'm a fairly novice rider so probably wouldn't,
there does seem to be a lot of travel on the forks though.
    cheers

  2. Thinking about this last night - it would seem like a set-up would be worthwhile. I'm slightly ashamed to admit that in over 5000 miles I've only ever used the pre-set suspension settings, and not carried out any mods. So I'm not familiar with how it works or whether it's even possible to adjust spring pre-load. But presumably it ought to be relatively straightforward, once you figure out the correct button press sequence.

  3. Front preload is set with the right fork, there are a few threads on here about it.

Alternatively, the basics are in the manual!

Rear preload is set through suspension settings on the dash.

  4. Setting the rear pre-load is simple. Left hand switch gear, hold down the switch under indicator button for 3secs. This enters menu. Enter the DDS menu and select pre load. Then just change it. The tricky part is understanding the values and how far to change it for you, for that I have no idea and hope someone can chime in.

  5. Does it keep the setting then and apply it to all riding modes ?

  6. No, each riding mode has to be done individually but it is saved, no need to keep redoing.

  7. Spanner and fork leg top.....17 turns min to max (someone please confirm....this is all from memory...top shelf drugs recently so cloudy in here).
Its very easy to scratch the nut, so try a thin prices of cotton over the but.

  8. Mine is a 2014 model and it is 9 complete turns (and a bit). And yes scratches easy. lol

  9. So is there an average adjustment thats been tried ? a base line or starting point if you like ?
I know it depends on weight but like I said I know nothing about this so rather than just fiddle

  10. Apparently at the front wind it all the way out, then for every 15kg you are wind it in half a turn. So I did 4 full turns in which made it set for 120kg. Figured that was a good starting point. The rear I have no idea. Sorry

  11. Been looking at this myself after a lot of fork dive on a ride chasing mates KTM1190R which had been set up properly.

I have been through all the electronics settings in all the rider modes and upped all the front preload from medium to medium hard which has improved the handling a bit but my main gripe is the rebound damping as I think its too low and the front is coming back up too quickly, unsettling the front end on the transition from hard braking to turn in

from what I can see there is no manual adjustment on the forks, no electronic adjustment on skyhook so my only solution is to take it to a specialist to have the fork springs or oil changed to stiffen things up a little

    unless anyone knows different ??

  12. The front preload is a manual adjustment buddy. It's the dampening you will have changed electronically.
